The following students have enrolled in the Grays Harbor Business College this week: Anna Dahl, Molly Mason, Reed Benham, G. F. Palmer, J. W. Bougher as night students, and B Walk er, Mavnie McManemy and Verna Wood day students. The basket ball teams of the High school and the Grays Harbor Business college will compete in the gymnasium tomorrow evening. There will be two games, one between the fir t teams and one between the second. The game will be called at 8 o'clock. Mrs. John Strommer died Tuesday of tuberculosis, at the family residence, 80S Michigan avenue. She was 33 years of age. C. A. gymnasium la-t evening, and played two games of basket ball, one by the young ladies and one by the hoys. The Aberdeen girls were de'ented in a score of 14 to 3. and the Aberdeen boys won in n score o'2o to 10. The games were well played «nd were witnessed by a large number of spectators. NEW ClfV COUNCIL HOLDS A VERY LIVELY AND DUSY SESSION LAST NIGHT. Chief Schneider Still Holds His Posi tion, There Being no New Appoint ment. All of the Other Officers Are Reappointed. North Aberdeen Bridge to be Inspected. All of the councilmen were pr r sent when Mayor France called to order last evening, and when the minutes were ap prove! Councilman Sherwood moved that the regular order of business tie set aside and iliatthe mayor announce tie appointments. This had a had effect noon Councilman Mapes, and before the motion could be seconded he was on his feet and claimed recognition. In the meantime Mr. Hood seconded ttie mo tion, which Mapes claimed was out of order, but the mayor, seeing only dila tory tactics, proceeded to hear the m< - tion. Mr. Mapes appealed to the coun cil, upon which the mayor, who did not seem to be in a figh'ing humor, said ' All right, go alidad, let the council decide." The council evidently did not wish to listen, no the appeal was withdrawn, and the mayor proceeded with his announce ments. Then the fun began. "For chief of police, Edward Payette,*' said the mayor. "I move for a secret ballot on confirmation," said Mr. Sher wood. Then there was much talk, hut the vote carried, anil Mr. Payette was rejee'ed by a vote of 5 to 7. "I move that the council suggest hy secret I aMit to the mayor their choice for a chief," said Mr. Sherv. ooil. and again there was much talk. Some wanted it understood that they were there to sup port the mayor in his appointments, and others wanted to go down into history along the same line, bur again Mr. Sher wood won, and the secret ballot stood 10 for Adam Schneider, 1 for George C. Daan ami 1 for William Anstie, Mr. Pay ete not being mentioned. T»>e mayor announced that the police department w aild remain as it was until the council conlil find a man that all could agree upon.
