The Seattle branch of the
NAACP, in planning lts campaign
for memberships. expects to re

tion. especially in the nation at
large. has been increasingly appre

Those members who read the
NAACP bulletin and the CRISIS
realize what a powerful influence
the organization has. it has the
drive of almost half a million
members, with a leadership that
ls unusually able and dedicated to
the welfare of the Negro people. ‘
One of its most far-reaching ac-‘
complishments during the last year
was the enactment of the New
York FEPC law, a model for other
states to follow. Unfortunately. iin
iour own state such a law was not
enacted although the NAACP and
other groups worked hard for its
passage. We failed also to pass
the public accommodations bill
which our regional office spon
sored. But another day is coming
and we shall yet pass the kind of
law enacted by New York.

MIGHTY SEVENTH WAR LOAN
We and all of our fellow Americans are looking for
ward to the Seventh War Loan, which is to run officinlly
from May 14 through the month of June. There will
be only two War Loan periods in 1945, inltead of the
usual three.
The previous War Loam the Sixth, was the greatest
financial achievement, so far, in the history of the world;
it aimed at 14 billion dollars and reached more than 21
and a half billion dollars. Only five billions was asked
of “individual purchasers” in that War Loan drive.
Now comes the Seventh War Loan—May 14 through
June 30—in which 14 billions is again the general goal.
but seven billions of that 14 is being sought from individ
uals, rather than from banks and other organizations and
corporations.
The individual citizens is the man who counts in
America. When he saves his money, invested in the safest
institution and at the best interest for the security, instead
of putting it into channels of trade, he defeats infla
ion. Reducing the number of buyers, reduces the chances
for inflationary rise in the prices of consumed goods.
Every dollar put into War Bonds by theindividual, and
allowed to stay there, is a dollar lined up with the anti
inflation forces.
In this domestic battle, we must continue to march
not only until but even after “the boys come home.”
HERE’S WHAT I SAY!
By H‘UMPHREY BOGART
Sir:
HOW'D YOU LIKE TO EARN A DECORATION
FROM HITLER OR HIROHITO? Here’s the way you
work it. You donft havq. to ion; the German Anny or
{he Jup Army. You don’t even have to blow up on
American war plant.
It's easier then that. All you have to do is follow
the line of the Germans end their stooges ere handing
out in this country. All you have to do is swallow the
ace-hunk. That’s what the Germans went us to do.
They figure that if enough of us tell: this race-bunk,
we’ll get to fighting among ourselves. Thet'll weaken
us so much that we’ll be easy pickings the next time
—-even if we should win this time.
Listen, brother. in this man's country you can my
the girl you like. You can pal around with the folks you
like. You can pray in a Church of your own choosing.
Okny. But that doesn't mean that one kind of Church is
BETTER than another. It doesn't mean one kind of
people is BETTER than another.
Let’s look at the record.
