That's what we need hew in Seattle. That's
what every Western city needs. Too many
millions of Coast money are ing sent East
every year for materials than can be made on this
Coast just a- well as on the other side of the
Mississippi River.
Take the matter of iron and steel. During
the year 190*> this Coast will •end East
$3J.(XX),tX» for manufactured iron and steel, and
will pay the transcontinental railroads $18,000,000
in freight charges for hauling it out here These
vast sums total 00,000. In 1910 Eastern iron
and steel will cost the Coast $55,000,000. The
consumption here is steadily increasing at an
average annual rate of 10 per cent
This tremendous drain of money to the East
is entirely unnecessary. Better steel can be made
on Puget So— than at any other point in the
United States, for the reason that th. iron ores
here arc of the highest grade in the country.
Seattle men a few years ago believed that
they could build a battleship, an.l they did build
a battleship. Seattle men four years ago be
lieved they could hold a big exposition here, and
they did hold it. Seattle men now believe that
they can make every variety of iron and steel
right at home, and they will make it. Things
arc being done here every year that were never
done before. It*- the Seattle way.
The Western Steel Corporation, with head
{ offices in Seattle, will ere long open it*. first
completely-equipped Heel plant at I RON'DA I.E.
The first plant will be followed by other and
greater plants. The enormous drain of Coast
money to the East for iron and steel will he
gradually diminished The industrial map of the
West will be changed. I RON DALE will become
the greatest manufacturing city west of the
Mississippi.
.People have come for hundreds of miles to
sec 1K» »\l> U.K. It is only iS miles from Scat
tic. Why don't you go to MC it? We have
popular excursion tickets to I RON DALE in our
offices, good every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
