ports. The vessrl. which is of 4,310 :
tons. is an old craft. launched in
1905_ but it was rebuilt and mod— Ii

years it has served as a training
ship. On the next trip, its 43rd
“cadet cruise" in foreign waters,
it will have a crew of 23 officers.

Dr. Olivecrona Has
Performed 3,500
Brain Operations
STOCKHOLM, November 21.—
(By airmaill—In the past twenty
five years. the noted Swedish brain
surgeon. Professor Herbert Olive
crona, has performed over 3,500
brain operations of various kinds
in Sweden and abroad. Recently
over fifty of Dr. Oilvecrona‘s
Swedish and foreign pupils met in
Stockholm to celebrate this unique
anniversary and to honor their
famous teacher whose ultra-mod
ern nenro-surgical‘ clinic at the
Seraphim Hospital in Stockholm
has long been a meeting place for
medical scientists from all parts
of the world. On this occasion. a
special "Olivecrona Society" was
also formed.

Only a few weeks ago Dr. Olive- i
crona performed an extremely dif- 1
ficult operation on an eight-yeari
old Italian boy. Luigi Frassoni. ‘
which attracted great attention in I
the Swedish press. The youngster,
had a large brain tumor and thei
Italian doctors found it necessary!
to seek help from the Swedish
specialist. The Swedish Aero
transport Company gave the boy
and his nurse at free trip from
Florence to Stockholm, where the
patient was immediately rushed
to the hospital. The operation, an
‘unusually intricate one, lasted ‘
:over two hours but proved suc
; cessful. and after ten days the boy '
'was out of danger and well on his
;way to recovery. I
X. The Falsterbo Canal. dug dur
ing the war through the Falsterbo
‘Peninsula at the extreme south
western corner of Sweden, in the
province of Skﬁne, recently cleared
its 60.00001 ship. The canal, built
to create a safe passage between
the Straits of Oresund, opposite
Denmark. and the Baltic Sea.
shortens the passage from the
yNOl‘th Sea to the Baltic by about
fourteen nautical miles. It has a
length of 27 kilometers, or about
seventeen miles.
A French motion picture, “L'
homme de sa vie." 'featuring Si
mone Simon, Claude Dauphin. and
Andre Luguet, will be produced in
Sweden under the direction of
Robert Woog. Though many
French films have been made in
iSwitzerland, Italy. and other for
eign countries, this is the first time
that Sweden will serve as a back
ground for one.
