Relief Organization
Allocates 11 Million
OSLO.~ 11 million kroner have
been allocated by the Norwegian
European Relief Organization out
of its total assets of 13 million
kroner. The allocations will be
used as follows: Purchase of food
stuffs. 6 million: transport, 1 mil
lion: for the Scandinavian Antitu
berculosis Drive in Europe 1.5 mil
lion. In addition 2 million kronex‘
have been allocated to a children's
home at Grefsrud near Holme
strand. This home will harbor 200
child-refugees suffering from tu
bei‘culosis.
Allocation has also been made
for 50 undernourished Austrian
children who will live in Norway
for two months. _

OSLO. «— In accordance with an
agreenwnt reached at a confer
ence in London. the. Norwegian
Minister of Defense, Mr. Jones
Christian Haug‘e states that Nor
wegian military forces will con
tipue their occupation duties in
Germany for another two years.
Mr. Hauge adds that the con
ferrence. did not deal with other
matters of political or military
substance.
Mis's Viveca Lindfors. Swedish
motion picture actress. began work
on another Warner Brothers' film
in Hollywood on May 17. It will
be called “South of St. Louis."
Joel McCrea will appear opposite
her.

Boy flelicoptered En Route To Norway
At the International Air Exposition at Idlewiled Airport, New
York, Aug. 6. the highlight of the day was the embarkation of
Alexander deVito. aged“, for a trip to Norway aboard a Scandi
navian Airlinen stratocruiser. Alexander was the lucky winner of
the first prize in the “Sons of Norway” convention raffle which
entitles him to a free round trip to Norway by the S.A.S.
Young deVito, living in Dongan Hills, Staten Island, was wished
god speed by Richmond Borough President Cornelius A. Hall. who
charged him with the responsibility of establishing better contacts
between the youth of the two countries.
With an honor guard from nine youth organizations standing by,
their young ambassahor then boarded a helicopter. which took him
from the grandstand across the vast airfield to the waiting S.A.S.
plane. Amid the cheers of the, crowd the D.C.-6 soared towards
Norway.

David O. Selzmck, according to
latest report, will not make a film
version of “A Doll's House" in
Sweden — at least not as his in
itial Scandinavian venture. The
Ibsen drama has been shelved in
favor of another story. the title
of which has not yet been divulged.
It will be made in Stockholm, how
ever, in the sound studios of
Svensk Filmindustri. Sweden’s
largest motion picture company.
Dorothy McGuire, who was slated
to take the part of “Nora" in the
Ibsen play. is in Stockholm await
ing word from Mr. Selznick as to
the next step.

Services Are Held In
Ancient Viking Church”

of Osloites are now attending
Sunday services in the Golstave
church 7— a miraculous wooden
fjord valley, the building is now
preserved at the Norweigian open
air Museum near Oslo, whence it
was moved from its 700 year-old
site.
Last summer. Rev. Hans Gyde
land instituted summer services in
the ancient edifice which proved
immensly' popular; hundreds of
Osloites and visitors gathered for
the Sunday meetings. This year,
the interest appears even greater,
and facilities for seating the en
larged congregations are b e i n g
provided,
units and sufficient for Sweden's
entire requirements as well as for
a certain export volume, are now
being manufactured at the Swed
ish Karnbolaget's penicillin fac
tory at Hornsberg. outside Stock
holm. Four years of labor lie be
hind the production, which has
been going on for three months.
The factory, which is selling peni
cillin at a price of less than one
krona per vial. has cost several
million kronor to build, and is the
first of its kind in Sweden. The
process of manufacture, which was
demonstrated recently to C ro'w n
Prince Gustaf Adolf and Eje Moss
berg, Minister of the Interior. is
based entirely on an American
method. The fungus used. known
as Q 176. has been refined and
bred in the United States.
