Mr. Cantor also visited the American Summer School in Oslo where the young students greeted him enthusiastically after the un expected and extraordinary lec ture he gave them. Montana 0355 Rainier Ave. Norway Increases Foreign Commerce OSLO.—-—The total value of Nor wegian imports last June amount ed' to 308 million kroner against an export during the same period of 181.2 million kroner. Compared with the month of May the effec tive import of goods Went up with 26.2 million kroner. The imports from European countries increased in. June with 24.2 million kroner. In the imports from North and Central America there was a de crease of 3 million kroner. Professor Andreas Lindblom, di rector of the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm and also head of the Skansen outdoor museum and folk park, recently arrived in America. Charlie ls talking with two-year old Jane Reid from Malone. N. Y., aboard the ‘Gripsholm,” but. he seems to have embarrased her a bit, as she turns away blushing, to the amusement of the other children. Mr. Bergen and Charlie have given performances In Sweden. Den mark, England, Germany and France, and they have also made a film, which will later be‘ shown at the American theatres. .Arctic Reconstruction To Cost $220,000,000- NEW YORK, N. Y.———The first detailed survey of reconstruction needs in the Nazi-leveled Nor wegian provinces of North Troms and Finnmark was recently placed before the Norwegian Parliament. According to these estimates, a to tal of $220,000,000 will be needed to restore these far-northern prov inces. and a minimum of 10 years will be required to complete the job. Of the projected amount. $144,000,000 is to be spent between 1945-50. Based on careful esti mates from various Government, provincial. and community de pastments. as well as private or ganizations, the survey is expected to comprise the basis for more de tailed economic studies in the future. Replacement of the 11,608 dWell ing houses. which were burned or blown up by the retreating Ger mans in 1944. will cost an esti— mated $61,734,000. Some 30 per cent of these houses have been re plaCed to date. and this portion of the project is expected to be com pleted by 1952. In addition. $11. 960,000 in office and combined business buildings are to be built during the ten year period. Of the 13,951 barns and farm out-build. ings destroyed in 1944. 1045 per manent and 4080 provisional re placements had been enmpleted by January 1, 1948. Farm buildings alone will cost an estimated $14.- 520.000. Thanks to the special stress laid on this phase of re~ building. it is already possible to provide shelter for as many ani mals as before the war.
