Sunken Wrecks
Supply Lumber
OSLO. AWith the output of Nor
way’s forests strictly allocated to
the exchange-producing wood
processing industries or to recon
struction of war-levelled areas. the
average Norwegian who needs
lumber to repair his homr or to
build a needed addition often faces
a long wait. First things must
come first.
But a group of enterprising: Os
loites have found a new source of
timberw-free for the asking. Dur
ing the course of the summer this
group, during off hours. has sal
vaged many thousands of feet of
lumber for its own building pur
poses. At the bottom of many
fjords and harbors are wrecked
ships within easy grappling dis
tance. In many cases the timber
is still sound. and though water
logged can be re-cut and used for
a variety of building purposes.
Thus far, several houses in the
0310 area have been built—largely
from this material which is free.
and requires no allocation number.
