Danish Prime Minister Bids
Danes Welcbme For Christmas
No greater joy can come to Dan—
ish families in the Old Country
than a Christmas visit from
friends or relatives in America. is
a message from Hans Hedtoft,
Prime Minister of Denmark. ‘
In a statement recalling some of
the old and hallowed Danish
Christmas traditions. Mr. Hedtoft
assures visitors of that hearty wel
come and hospitality which insep
arably attaches to Christmas. And
referring to the Christmas excur-I
sions planned by the great trans-1
port lines, including the_Swedishi
American Line, he points out that
the summer travel season's rush is
over and that the accommodations
of Danish hotels and pensions will
be ample for Yuletide visitors. The
Swedish American Line is running
two special Christmas Excursionsl
to Denmark this year. the Grips-4
holm" leaving New York, Deccm—l
'ber 4, and the new motorliner;
“Stockholm.” leaving a week later
or December 10.
The Prime Ministers statement
follows:
“Many Danes who have settled
abroad and found a new home
there look back with pleasure to
the cozy traditions that attach to
a Danish Christmas“ Through rel
atives and friends I have received
the impression that Danish fam
ilies who leave us never forget the
old customs of the Danish Christ-‘
mas. A Danish Christmas Eve

Christmas tree is observed in all
'parts of the world. And the Dan
nish Christmas hymns are being
played and sung not only by the
emigrants but also by their den
scendants. |
Many old traditions diéappear,
the new age finds new ways, the
Christmas is observed today as it

everything that one‘s heart coul'd‘

But at Christmas, accommoda-|
