THE SCANDINAVIAN AMERICAN Norway Set For Winter Olympics Norway Readies Gala Program For Athletes From 30 Nations Already under way for more than three years, preparations for the VI Olympic Winter Games, to be held In Oslo, Norway, Feb. 14-25,. 1952, are now in high gear. Much of the construction work on new tracks and fields has been completed, and the rent will be ready by next fall. Meanwhile, Oslo-Hes are being canvassed in an all-out ei fort to provide ample accommodations for foreign visitors. For the first time in the history of the Winter Olympics, all but a few of the games will take place within the city limits of a national Capital. The hubs of activities— Bislett and Jordal Fields and the Holmenkollcn Hill, are located on ly a few minutes by trolley or elec tric railway from the center of Oslo. Thus, visitors may enjoy the cultural and social life of the Norwegian capital, and yet have a chance to watch the exciting sports contests. In the course of eleven days. some 1,200 men and women from about 30 nations are scheduled to compete for highest honors in ev ery type of winter sport, includ mg bobsled, ice hockey, figure and speed skating, and a variety of skiing exercises. All other ski contests. in cluding the classic 50-kilometer cross-country race. the 18-kilome ter cross-country, the 4 x lo-kil ometer relay. and the 10-kilometer for women. will start and end at Holmenkollen, within city limits. Here. too, some 90.000 spectators will line the famous Holmenkollen Hill to watch the thrilling ski jumping contests. The four-story high. concrete take-off structure. now housing the one and only Ski Museum in the world. wil! by next winter boast a good-sized restau rant with indoor and outdoor ser vice.
