Announcement
More Mileage Adjust
ments on Goodrich
Tires.
FABRIC 6,000 Miles
O 8 0 0 0
To automobile owners and drivers—to Good
rich Dealers—the B. F. Goodrich Rubber Com
pany herewith declares a more-mileage adjust
menton Goodrich Tires—6,000 miles for Safety
Treads, and 8,000 miles for Silvertown Cords.
Fix these new Goodrich Adjustment figures
firmly in your mind—6,000 miles for .Safety
Treads—8,000 miles for Silvertowns—instead of
the 3,500 and 5,000 miles respectively heretofore
in force.
This new adjustment stands back of all Good
rich Tires, including tires already purchased in
the hands of user or dealer.
Goodrich Tires in actual usage on road and
pavement are today unfolding such matchless
mileage, regulaly in excess of adjustment basis
that Goodrich knows it has the strongest, most
durable tires the rubber industry has produced.
The Goodrich adjustment mileage is increased
because Goodrich knows the mileage in its tires,
and it wants to give every motorist a share in
their economy, and all-around benefits.
Go to a Goodrich dealer and buy a Goodrich
Tire—or buy four Goodrich Tires—sure that with
fair and square usage a Safety Tread will render
you at least 6,000 miles and a Silvertown Cord
at least 8,000.
Prices on Four Standard Sizes:
30x31-2 Safety Tread $19.55
34x4 Safety Tread 33.30
34x4 Silvertown Cord 49.50
34x41-2 Silvertown Cord 55.75
Don't pay more than Goodrich prices for
less than Goodrich quality.

An amusing feature of the gather
ing at the court room Saturday at
Finley was the way a number of
strong headed leaguers made a bee
line for the door when Judge Cole
announced that the hall would be
turned over to Attorney General
Langer. They apparently have leaned
tne lesson well which is repeatedly
given them in the Leader and Cour
ir-News, to avoid reading or hearing
the other side of the question.
Langer had the Tacts—including
proofs for the information of anyone
who dubted his statements—and pre'
sented them in such a forceful man
ner taht any hard-shelled leaguer
who desired to remain in that hyp
notized condition was jeopardising
his peace of mind by listeniny.
We have heard all sorts of com
ments on Langer's address at Finley
Satuday but for narrow-mindedness
there were none to equal the follow*
ing incident: A father and son
have both paid their $16 and voted
the ticket straight evry time. The
son, however, contrary to league or
ders, decided to hear the other side
discussed and went to Finley Satur
day. On his return home, his father
immediately wanted to know what
he thought of the address. The son
told him that the speech was good
and that he had found out many
things he did not know before, where
upon the old man gave vent to his
league training and insisted they
were all lies. The boy protested
that that could not be as Mr. Langer
had the proofs. Still the old man
insisted that they were lies of the
worst kind and that Langer was such
an awful crook and so smooth that
he probably made up the proofs too.
It is to people like this, who refuse
or are unable to listen to reason,
that Townley is able to sell his $100
store certificates etc., and make
them like it.
Another sign that the Germans are
unable to come in touch with modern
progress, is that they persist in
working where other people are
quitting and reducing production.

THE HOPE PIONEER
President Wilson on the eve of
his present illness issued a summons
to the American people to repond to
the Third Red Cross Roll Call. This
summons is here transmitted to the
people of this community on the
eve of the campaign in which a peace
time member for every war time
member is the goal of the chapter
workers. The President's letter fol
lows:
"As President of the United StateB
and as President of the American
Red Cross, I recommend and urge a
generous response to the Third -Red
Cross Roll Call which opens on
November the second with the ob
servance of Red Cross Sunday and
appropriately closes on November the
elventh, the first anniversary of the
signing of the armistice.
"Twenty million adults joined the
Red Cross during the war, prompted
by a patriotic desire to reneder ser
vice to their country and to the cause
for which the United States was en
gaged in war. Our patriotism should
stand the test of peace as well as the
test of war, and it is an intelligently
patriotic program which the Red
Cross proposes, a continuance of
service to our soldiers and sailors
who look to it for many things, and
transference to the problems of
peace at home of the experience and
methods which it acquired during the
war.
"It is on the membership more
than money contributions that the
stress of the present campaign is
laid, for the Red Cross seeks to as
sociate the people in welfare work
throughout the land, especially in
those communities where neither of
ficial nor unofficial provision has
been made for adequate public health
and social service.
It is in the spirit of democracy
that the people should undertake
their own welfare activities, and the
National Red Cross wisely intends
to exert upon community action a
stimulating influence and to place
the energies of the organization be
hind all sound public health and wel
fare agencies.
The American Red Cross does not
purpose Indefinite prolongation of its
relief work abroad, a policy which
would lay an unjust burden upon our
own people and tend to undermine
the self-reliance of the people re
lieved, but there is a ncessary work
of completion to be performed before
the American Red Cross can honor
ably withdraw from Europe. The
Congress of the United States has im
posed upon the Red Cross a continu
ing reponsibility abroad by author
izing the Secretary of War to trans
fer to the American Red Cross such
surplus army medical supplies and
supplementary and dietary food
stufis now in Europe as shall not be
required by the army, to be used by
the Red Cross to relieve the distress
which continue in certain countries
of Europe as the result of the war.
To finance these operations, to
conclude work which was begun dur
ing the war, and to carry out some
comparatively inexpensive construc
tive plans for assisting peoples in
eastern Europe to develop their own
welfare organizations, the American
Red Cross requires, in addition to
membership fees, a sum of money
small in comparison with the gifts
poured into its treasury by our gen
erous people during the war.
'Both the greater enduring do
mestic program and the lesser tem
porary foreign program of the Red
Cross deserve support, and I venture
to hope that its peace time member
ship will exceed rather than fall be
low its war-time membership.
WOODROW WILSON."
