Mrs. Fred Oberg is down from Brit tin visiting with her parents. Next spring will witness another large influx of settlers to this vicin ity. Landlord Lee and J. M. Wirth have installed new lighting plants in their places of business. For a while this fall Braddock sup ported two barber shops. But now it's different: we haven't any to support. A car of Hocking Valley coal ar rived here Sunday. It arrived just in time, as the mecUry took a tumble Mr. and Mrs. Warren Mandigo are expected home from Canada about ChristmaB. They will again take up their residence here. Wm. Baxter, accompanied by his son Bernard, left yesterday for St. Paul, where he will again consult a physician in regard to Bernard's leg. A social dance was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rea niann, in Braddock, Friday night. Quite a number of the young people attended, and ail report a pleasant time. L. M. Doerschlag is enjoying a visit from his brother Albert, who arrived here last week from Sioux Falls, S. D. While here Mr. Doerschlag will probably invest in some Emmons county land in this vicinity. As soon as the school-house is completed, which will be about the first of the year, the ladies of Brad dock will give a dance in the build ing. The Linton orchestra will be asked to furnish the music, and sup per will be served at the Central ho tel. J. J. Kyan sold last week to Anton Erickson, of Decorah, Iowa, the whole of 3-135-75. The purchaser, with his family, will move here in the spring, bringing a steam breaker, stock and household goods, and he will commence farming and making improvements on the land. Married—Mr. George E. Davis, of this place, and Miss Emma E. Par ker, of Minneapolis, at the home of the bride's mother in the latter named city, on Monday, Dec. 3, 1906 the ceremony being performed by Elder Bates, of Minneapolis, in the presence of about 200 guests—frlenda of the bride and her mother. The bride and groom were the recipients of many beautiful and serviceable I presents. They arrived here last week, and have gone to housekeep ing on Mrs. Davis* farm, near town Church services in the Scandina vian language are announced by Rev. 1 Farness, of Braddock, as follows: 1 At 1 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Orthmeyer and daughters are back from South Da kota, where they spent Thanksgiving. Miss Mary Appert, who has been in St. Alexius Hospital at Bismarck for some weeks past, very sick with typhoid fever, Is now much improved. L. H. Brifgle received the sad news Monday night that his niece. Mis. William Briggle, of South Dakota, who visited here about a year ago, had been killed that day by a train. He was unable to get to her home in time to attend the funeral. Mrs. Roy Yeater and babes accom panied Mrs. Yeater's mother—Mrs. Riemer—to Groton, S. D., where they will spend a month at Mrs. Yeater's girlhood home. Roy is baching. but manages to get to town occasion ally to escape his own cooking. Elmer Lewis, who is working for the Northern Pacific at Glendive, Mont., writes Anton Larson that he recently had a foot crushed by an engine. Elmer seems to be unfortu nate, for while here last fall he had a hand mangled in a threshing ma chine. Relatives this week received word that Mrs. Jack Frederick, of Morton county, sister-in-law of Commission er Frederick of this place, died De cember 4th, of erysipelas. The lady was an aunt of Archie, Artie and Earl Frederick and visited here the past summer. E. F. Savage was over from Logan Friday, and on Saturday he and J. I. Roop transacted business at Bis marck. Next week Ed goes east, and report has it that he is in an unu sually jolly mood before leaving, as though the trip might have some extra importance. Andrew Hansen is home from his visit with his brother at Valley City. No potatoes, no coal and but little opportunity to sell their grain on -ac count of car shortage is the propo tion the Valley farmers are just now facing. Potatoes are worth a dollar a bushel there. Mrs. J. B. Brock, who has been in the New England states for a month past enjoying a visit with her mother and with other relatives of the fam ily, returned home Monday evening, much to the satisfaction of her lone ly partner. She had a highly enjoy able time, but like all westerners she found that indescribable something appealing to her to return to the prairies, and she also found the sur roundings of the home of her youth so changed that they offered 110 in ducements to her to remain there, and it is with a feeling of content ment that she' returns to the land of room, health and plenty.
