An uncle of Postmaster Lawrence of Dickinson passed away the other day down in Connecticut: he had been married seventy-five vears and his wife still survives. A WILD RIDE. An uncontrolable trolley car Friday morning came very near causing a catastrophe at the terminal at the capitol building and a score or more of people are feeling very grateful that the results were as they were. The capitol trolley car was making a trip between 10 and 10:30 a. m. Im mediately after rounding the curve entering the capitol grounds, it was noticed by one or two passengers that the car was hot slacking as usual, also that the motorman was vigorous ly trying to apply the brakes. The car at a high rate of speed sped on and crash it went into the big doors of the brick car barn which were closed tight and the car did not stop until the rear wall had been crashed into. When it was seen that the car would crash into the building the pas sengers were plunged into a state of fright and some near the door Jumped for safety. Inside the barn stood a team which had been used on the plow for clear ing the track of snow. One horse of the team was killed outright and part of its body wedged between the rear and fore trucks of the car and it was this obstruction which prevented the car from continuing the full length of the track in the barn—and prob ably was the means of preventing the car from crashing into the ice house at the rear of the barn. Had the car collided with the ice house the re sults would likely have been in the nature of many personal injuries. If not fatalities. There were several ladies on the car and in the party were Judge and Mrs. Fisk of Grand Forks, and Mrs. Judson LaMoure. An elderly lady was prevented from being burned on the car stove by Lieut. R. A. Thomson of Fargo. To say the least the passengers con sidered that they had had an exper ience which they don't want repeated. fhe slippery condition of the rails at the usual stopping place at the capitol and the fact that the brakes did not properly respond, was the cause of the accident. The front fender of the car prevented any seri ous damage to the car vestibule and after a little fixing the car was able to resume trips to and from the capitol and down town. Motorneer O'Connor deserves credit for staying at his post through It all and doing his best to gain control of his car. It was one of those unavoidable ac cidents where no one was to blame and all on the car may thank their stars it was no worse. DRY 8PELL BROKEN. The very dry spell on at Bismarck was broken the other night by the ar rival of an express car from Moor head. loaded with Val Blatz, Grain Belt. Budweiser, Shamrock, Black Buffalo, and Green River, consigned to 200 different parties. The hotels, however, will have to do the cleaning up and stand for the noise without any resulting financial benefit.—Bis marck.Tribune.
