Tbe girls' basket-ball team practiced outside Thursday. The Latin class lias been .studying "purpose" clauses. The algebra class Is Kitting busy. Tbe class in physical geography isgetr ting along splendidly. Tbe class In civil government has finished up the study of townships, and is beginning the study of tbe county. Miss Sims lias taken charge of the high school music class. Music is one of the most important subjects in tbe high school. We hope to have a regu lar music anil drawing teacher next year. The classes in the commercial' branches are doing good work. We have been handicapped somewhat by not being able to get our text books, but they are now here and we expect to accomplish something before spring. The high school formed a literary Friday. The following officers were elected: Sarah Lee, President Nellie Wolverton, Vice-President Curtis Seeley, Secretary Fred Petrie, Treas urer. A committee was appointed to prepare a constitution, which will be submitted at the next meeting. The meetings are to be held every two' weeks on Friday afternoon after re cess. A program will be held at each meeting and we thus have two-fold object—becoming familiar with par liamentary rules and cultivating a better taste for good English. Oram mar -Room. The fifth grade are reading selec tions from, "Tales of tbe Northland" for sight reading. The sisth grade geography clasa have been studying tbe western states. This class has been doing some very good work in map drawing. Marc Schlangen and Glen Turner drew up tbe usual lines for another spelling contest Friday afternoon. Marc's side won with a score of 14 toO. Ida Fahrenwaid, Glenn Schlangen, Lester Scblangen, Mildred Lyon, Marc Schlangen and Norman Daffin rud, of the fifth grade, have been per fect in spelling duriog tbe paat week. Many of tbe seventh grade are doing excellent work in grammar. They have so far built a good foundation for technical grammar. We wish that asgood results migbt be obtained in grammatical expressions in every day conversation. There have been only a few cases of ataesnce this week, but a number of cases of tardiness. Most of tbese were only a matter of a few minutes, but we feel that a little extra effort on the part of these few delinquent ones would soon give us a perfect record. First We have two fine Cecropian moths, which batched tbis week. This is very early for them to hatch. In the third grade tbis week Marian Wood won first place in apelling, In the fourth grade Walter Wittmxyer was first The third grade are doing very nice work with their water-colors, They learned to mix colors and began soma little landscapes tbis week. Tbe fourth grade tried some charcoal-gray work this week. We are learning "Eugene Field's Seein' Things at Night" and enjoy it very much. It is excellent material for bringing out natural expression and training the imagination.
