Os tie contrary—thaaki no me: :ie S'or c-y-Wood stripe of "repaMjeans" ia some of the districts—there were twelve democrats in ihe house a: the last session, as follows- Morin of Pembina. Wei ford of Pembina. Johnson of Pembina. Witlker of Walsh. Hrotnov o.. Walsh. C'asey of Walsh. Mallick of Grand Forks. Anderson of Grand Forks. I'arkhill of Richland Connolly of Uk-hlund. Ueland of l.aMourc. Hanson of Richland. It seems remarkably strange that, in the face of actual and positive evi dence to the contrarv. Mr. Woods en deavors to remove the charge of in KurKcntism from Representative Story. The fact is that Mr. Story was one of the bitterest insurgents of the whole house bunch at the last session. Although he was careful dur ing his campaign to keep the fact of his insurgency from the republican voters of Emmons county when the insurgent delegates to the state convention of that year were defeated by a vote of two lo one—no sooner had lie got to Misniarck than he was a raging insurgent, lie refused to join with the regular republicans in their efforts to organize I he house, and joined with the democrats—not one, bul. twelve—and insurgents in so do ing. Hi* was cheek by jowl all through (lie session with Senator Macdonald who misrepresents the republicans of this district in the leg islature, and who made a sneak when a bill in which Kidder county was in terested to the extent of several thousand dollars was up for passage in the senate Again, this year, Mr. Story attend ed the ,\Iarsha 11 -Tv,-ir hei 1 insurgent gathering at Grand Forks. Again, about a month ago, in connection with Messrs Campbell, Macdonald and Herolz. of this county and E. H. Wilson and others from Kidder toun ty, he was present at a meeting in a lawyer's office in Hisn.arck, at which meeting it was resolved to put up Mr. Herolz as the insurgent candidate against Streeter, in Kmmons, with Mr. Story as his running mate. Do Messrs. Campbell and Macdonald de ny being insurgents? Does any one for an instant suppose that—had insurgentisni proved to be as popular with the republicans of this state as Messrs. Wood, Story and Herolz had supposed it was going to be, thev would have for an instant hesitated in proclaiming from the housetops that they were insurgents? The fact is that Ill-other Wood is neither an insurgent nor a stalwart, lie is a liryan den,o-jrat—simply that and nothing more. He never has in his paper a kind word for the repub lican party, but hardly a week passes but ihere is a puff or liryan in his columns. The only interest he has in republicanism is in keeping a position near enough to the pie counter to catch an o:casional fmal-proor notice or an insurance statement. Should Itrjan be elected, Mr. Wood would le the chief of democracy in Kidder county, and any republican editor would wait a long tin.c—as republican .editors in this stale wailed dining the Cleveland lulniiiiisM-aiion—ere anything in the shape et party patron age came their way. In conclusion the writer will a that he has never for a moment ex pected anything but opposition from Mr. Woods atul bis ill the present campaign. The Ozone 1°' editor Is an intelligent gentleman and an able editor, but he hasn't a drop of republican blood in his system, lie said, when the writer made his an nouncement, that the Kmmons coun ty representative had "made a good record and is entitled to re-election." Then he began to watch carefully for an excuse for opposing him. and that quickly came when the Kmmons County Record referred to Represen tative Siory as an insurgent—a title in which Mr. Story gloried at the last session. The Ozone is getting into the right position—into the only fair and log ical position possible. A gumshoe campaign is not a fair and sqttnre campaign. Some Permanent Statements. ISteele Herald.} voting with democrats to organ ize the house of representatives a: the genera] assembly and attending the Grand Forks convention and prom ising the county to Tom Marshall does not constitute an insurgent, wi!! some one kindly inform us what does? We are willing to admit that it seems pretty bad to be called an in surgent, but for the insurgents them selves to kick about being thus desig nated would hardly seem to lie the thing to help the cause along. The Ozone has promulgated .Mr. Storey's candidacy for many months, and should not be ashamed to stand up for the colors under which Mr. Storey secured his election to the last assembly and under which he is seek ing re-election. In this week's issue The Ozone editor complains because he and his political associates are being called insurgents. In view of Ihe fact that they are willing to sacri fice almost anything else to further the interests of Mr. Storey's candida cy, and in view of the fact that Mr. Storey joined the insurgents in organ izing the house of representatives at the last assembly and that he attend ed the insurgent convention tit Grand Forks some months ago this state ment seems a bit absurd. Relative to Mr. Storey's factionalism, we reprint the following from the Kmmons Comi ty Record: "John Storey, of Kiddtr eotihty, one of the rankest insurgents in the house of representatives at liismarck last winter, and who joined with the dem ocrats in organizing the house, was in Union Monday night, and was being introduced around town by his leg islative running male, Mr. Herolz.' In the light of his past record Mr. Storey should not obje.-t to being called an insurgent. Neither can understand why Mrother Wood should object to being classed as an insur gent. Hie, lie is at heart a demo crat. and not a republican at all, and '•ould not be exported to work for the interests cif die republican party I hcrotoiv, it is ipiite a natural se quciice r.r affairs that the democrats paperi'""' 'llslll"''iit republicans of the state Xunl1 tin "akota should join forces in ttteiupt to disrupt the republi an party, ami Ui-.ivl'on. qn it(, nutu nil siHiHoner „r affair.* that Ui should support Mr. Store. candidate for iht U^islatun O/oiu insurgent un\ Had ilu- insur t'ul in carrying •i'MUs IM-I'U surras**. lu* state, Oy/nn would have shouted the insurgency of Mr. Storey :l n,t his palifyal fl from the housetops SCHOOL NOTES. .u,,uls li „, sillc .(, (h| j]) surgents have succumbed to iv- ava lanche. it would seem to furnish reasons why some people an of being called insurgents." fiijh sbwl. .-«» V.'.? c-vSinsaUbiTS W"t" •v v» jW'V-xi'vNi for firv in rsl r,,, •ciiTp. j..:? ut\t, 4£-csrrvcw! ^mnApratj,. The Ozone is making despc-rate ef forts to substantiate its statements that there has been no division in the county between the stalwarts and insurgents. The Ozone knows perfect ly well that the real issue in the cau cuses was to determine the complex ion of the delegation to the state convention. If Mr. Storey and his adherents had carried the county, in surgent. delegates would have been sent to the state convention, if" the insurgents had won out in the coun ty, it is almost a certainty that ihe county convention would have pass ed resolutions in favor of Mr. Storey for representative from the Twenty sixth district. The Ozone and its favorite son, Mr. Story, ignomini ously defeated in their attempt to place Kidder county in the in.-urg ent ranks, are now shouting that there was no i-sue between the stal wart and insurgent factions in the county The Ozone says that "so far as has been ascertained there was not an insurgent running on either local caucus tkket or any of the pre cincts." This is such an eggregious perversion of fact that it needs no contradiction. •prui&Z'- -Si i-.wsy -jwaciic- ,, f.~ .'• wri'T.? far com ss ri 5ip fvv^ri'. rn~^3 who ... ,r :n \V? are j-rissa A# to :he da:o of the .'.-. -.••-r.
