JN»R RLKCTR1C PLOW THRASHING ENGINES. FOR FEBRUARY. February will be a very eventful month. In fact, it will be tbe laat of the eventful months, for Mr. Roose velt will leave the White Houae March 4, and after that we shall only occa sionally hear from him, along with earthquakes, war in the Balkana, Bal suli, the old and new husbands of the Gould money, and other cable news. However, be that as it will, The groundhog will obey The impulse of prophetic gift Upon tbe second day. He'll feel tbe vibrant stir of spring Run up and down his sploe, Roll over like a hired man, Sit up and yawnand whine, Rub all bis knucklea in bis eyes. Wind up his winter snooze, Put on bis go-to-meetln' clothes And patent leather shoes, Ascend the stairway of bia lair, Observe the sky a while, And join tbe Ananias club In floe and dandy style. And tlien Uie date of Lincoln's birth will timorously dawn, and the wets and drys will show us whoae line-up he stood upon. The drys will say bo never drank, tbe wets will claim be did, they'll show him standing 40 ways for Sunday on the lid, the women will parade and pray for H20 for men, and tbe breweries will sadly sigh for the good old times again. St. Valentine's Day will come on tbe 14th. This will bs tbe biggest day of the month, inasmuch as It will give the people who believe In protecting American art an opportunity to show us just what the tariff is doing for It. There will, of course, be a few of the hideous caricatures wbicb everybody got when our native artists were com pelled to compete with tbe clieap labor of Europe, but In tbe main tbe valen tlnea will be a great improvement up* on anything we have seen. After look log tbem over we aball be able to de termine pretty well whether art, like the steel Industry, Is now quite able to take care of Itaelf, or If Is still an Infant and needs all tbe baby food that Uncle Joe Cannon can give It. Learn to take advantage of soil con ditions. Study the capability of your soil, Sow a small amount of tbe best seed obtainable per aero. Fan all seeds and use only tbe plumpest and cleaneat seed possible. Sow all seeds with a drill. Harrow or use a woeder on all your growing grain In the apring. Cultivate your alfalfa or meadows by uselng a disc or alfalfa harrow. Harrow your plowed ground as soon as plowed In spring and summer. Learn that cultivation conserves moisture. Good and thorough work It will pay. Learn to rotate your crops and keep everlastingly at it and success is as sured. Realize tbere Is always a ready mar ket for first-class stock and that scrubs don't pay. Make up your mind what you Intend to do, make your plans accordingly and carry out your Ideas. Have an alfalfa or rye, lot, or rather lots, for your hogs and growing pigs, and learn tbat to get results from these pastures It pays to feed some grain If only a little every day. Get your alfalfa seed In bed in the best possible state of tilth learn that alfalfa fielda will laat Indefinitely, pro vided you get a good stand, will culti vate tbem with a disc or alfalfa har row thoroughly, after each cutting and will manure them. Not forget tbat taking your crop off on four legs is one of the best ways to make clear money off of your farm, be sides improving its fertility by keep ing all manure on your land. This method of farming if carried out prop erly makes your land of greater value year by year, and you will have larger returns from your work. In otber words feed your crops to those animals you like best, be they cattle, sheep or bogs. Not frget that to raise crops and feed tbem successfully requires brains as well as muscle. Not forget that farmers are realiz ing tbat tbere is much more in being an up-to date farmer than most of us used to think. Keep In touch with your agricultur al college, get your name put down for their bulletins and recollect that the professors are eiperts In their differ ent lines, and that tbey will always be glad to assist snd advise If you will only show interest In tbelr work by asking for information. Learn by the experience of others, take some good farm paper and do not expect to get first-class papers for nothing it takes money to employ ex pert writers. DON'T Plow when your soil Is wet. Harrow or cultivate your land when it is wet. Plow your ground in the fall and harrow It fine it Is liable to blow away or drift leave It rough. Use poor seed and expect a good crop. Sow grain mixed with pernicious weedaeed. Over seed. Sow broadcast. Sow grain by band and then run a disc over the land, and expect good re sults. Scratch your ground and call It plowing and expect good results. Sow alfalfa seed on sod ground. Sow a nurse crop with alfalfa seed. Forget to harrow the weeds as soon as they appear. Let weeds grow, tbey are bard to get rid of when large, besides using up tbe moisture and fertility that crops need. Let tbe manure go to waste. Be discouraged If your crops do not meet with your expectation, It takes time to learn how to do things proper ly,besides the season may not be favor able. Forget that it is just as easy to get big crops as small ones, better seeds and better culture will Increase yields. Forget that all soils are not alike, and therefore cannot be treated the same.
