The rooster will crow at Hull this week—if things happen to happen. 1 wonder whether Mrs. Hen. will be laying for the boys when they arrive as entertainers? John Cleveringa had the misfor tune to upset with his buggy last Sunday evening. But John is a good horseman, and Pegasus was soon cooled down and a bad smash-up averted. H. Farmers of this vicinity and else where should remember their old friend, the potato-bug, he of the striped overcoat, who was here in such a numerous quantity last sum mer. The old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," is also applicable in this case. Planting a few hills of beans be tween the hills of potatoes is a very simple remedy for a very great evil —according to an item I read in a farm paper the other day. —Centipede. BAZBLTOH N STEVENS. (From Republican. April -V R. C. Burlingame was in town yesterday from his farm near Lar vik, and tells the editor that they can beat recent spring-chicken sto ries all hollow. They have about sixty chicks which are now at the advanced age of eight weeks. E. C. Campbell left Tuesday morn ing for a ten-days' trip to his old home near Ashland, Ohio. Upon his return he will wind up his affairs in Hazelton and leave for Carlstad, Al berta, Canada, where he expects to take up a piece of land and make his future home. A party was held Saturday even ing of last week at the home of Mrs. G. A. Lenhart in honor of the Misses Anna Geil and Olga Perras, who, Dame Rumor affirms, are soon to be brides. Seven young ladies were present, and a very enjoyable even ing was rounded out. Fay Harding left Monday for Mott to enter the employ of the Good ridge-Call Lumber Company. He will work as second man for a short time, after which it is expected he will be given charge of a yard. Mr. Harding's knowledge of lumber, through having been for a number of years a contracting carpenter, should make him a valuble man for any company. On all other matters he takes Ihe absolute gurantee and the best wishes of a host of Emmons county friends. Mrs. Haiding and children will remain on their farm east of Hazelton until a permanent location is decided upon. James Cooper, who left some weeks ago on a tour of inspection of King George's domain (sometimes referred to as "Sunny Southern Al berta"), returned to Hazelton Tues day evening, and reports no desire to again cross the international boundary-line. He had heard stories of cheap homes in that country (or perhaps he had read the flattering advertisements which sometimes ap pear on the "boughten" side of many North Dakota weeklies, against the wish of their publishers). Any how, he decided to take a look so. traveled to Calgary, Medicine Hat, Edmonton and other points, and from Edmonton made a trip of one hundred miles north by team to a place known as Sabaska Landing, but found nothing to suit him. Of course he saw some beautiful and prosperous country, but some one else had found it first and there was nothing left for "Sunny Jim." At some points where land could be taken the soil was light or too sandy, while in the north country it was covered with brush to such an ex tent that the clearing of it did not appeal to one who is used to break ing prairie and having a crop to market within four months. Much of the northern country is also well dotted with tamarack swamps, where moose and other game animals are yet quite plentiful. Mr. Cooper 4.) Notice for Publication. (F ivei News, April ».) The gentle house-fly has come and declared her intention of remaining. Skeeters next week. On three adjoining farms south of Braddock two hundred acres will be planted to corn this spring. This is the time of year to poison the gophers, as each one destroyed at this time counts a dozen or more. A crew of Standard Oil workmen are in town this week, putting in the company's distributing plant at this point. Judge Lee and Dr. Aldridge laid a beautiful gravel-walk along |the Soo avenue side of the former's garden, Monday. A Braddock lady is the possessor of ten hens, and the day of the bliz zard last week they laid ten eggs. Can you beat it? P. G. Levin has leased three quar ter-sections of land from Mr. Mc Cue, of Omaha—the same adjoining Mr. Levin's extensive holdings— thus making him the bonanza farmer of Emmons county. The Cowan impeachment case is dragging along slowly at Bismarck. The accused judge is introducing testimony in his defense that should, and undoubtedly will, knock the props from under the "purity squad of satanic politicians. Monday morning at an early hour Dr. Larrabee, of this city, was called by 'phone to the home of John Beal at Kintyre, where he found two of the latter's children, aged four years and seventeen months respectively, suffering from ptomaine poisoning. The doctor brought the little fellows around, and they have since fully recovered. It is not definitely known in what manner the children an nexed the poison. LSTRAYED—MARE.
