Iticord. (Dec.86.) Mrs. Glen Mickel is spending the holiday? with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I*. i:r.".ui. Mr. and Mr.-. Dodd and their daughter Hazel look Christmas din nerwith Mr. ami Mrs. W. U. Brown. Our teachers, the Misses Farrell and Chamley. wont to their homes to spend Christmas. They will have a week's vacation G. 0. Liwlerrnan and his sister Allie went out home Sunday and spent Christmas with their parents, returning to Temvik Tuesday after noon. Quite a number from Temvik at tended the Chri.-tmas tree and enter tainment at the Sand Creek church, Monday evening. The church was filled, a good program was given, and an enuyable time was had by all. Miss Kobe had a Christmas tree and program on Friday afternoon for her school in the Brock school house The room was darkened and Santa Claus "suspended'the rules" and came in the daytime. And everybody had a merry time, too. The Christmas tree and program given by the teachers and pupils of Temvik school was held Saturday evening. The tree was nicely trimmed, and the program was very interesting. It being a pleasant even ing, the hall was well filled. The children were all treated to candy and apples. The German-Americans had their Christmas tree Sunday evening. The weather having turn ed quite cold, there were not so many present as there would have been had it been warmer but the hall was nearly full and everybody hadag'wl time. —Tim Vick. (iood Woids for the Silo. Bismarck, N. 1)., Dec. 23.—In a letter to i:, |-'. Flint, state dairy commissioner, (.'. W. His letter has just been mailt' public by Commissioner Flint, and is. as follows: In reply to your inquiry relative t0 the silo that 1 built in 1905 on what is known as the Uak Park farm, *i" say that this is the farthest "OTth silo in the I'nitedStates, being most on the forty-ninth parallel i.- -Ox.iJ and holds a little over tiii!., of silage. 1 have never 11 t0.,hy top, though one year Put .n 1 i.j tons, which 1 fed that winter to forty-four head of cattle, jenty head of horses, and fifty head ,us?' An Old-Time Wahpeton Lynching. Hankinson News: The murder of George E.Moody is not the first trag edy that has ocurred in connection with the sheriff's office in this coun ty. Away back in 188!), more than twenty-two years ago, a deputy in Sheriff Miller's office became enam ored of a domestic in the sheriff's household. She repulsed his ad vances and he shot her in cold blood, the body dangling in mid-air above the murky waters of the riser. The notch in the bridge rail caused by the straining of the rope was an object of interest to morbid people for many years remaining, in fact, until the new steel bridge was built, a couple of years ago. A Narrow Escape. Souris, Dec. 20. A terrible trage dy was narrowly averted when Mr. and Mrs. Iver Haugen, who reside on the John I.erman farm, north west of town, and a young lad, son of Ole Guttu, a neighbor, were over come by coal g?s. The three had retired the previous night, after fill ing the stove with coai and shutting off the draught. Some time during the night gas began to escape into the room and the sleepers were as phyxiated. Carignan of Fort Yati's is ill in a hospital at Bismarck. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Langliers were in from their home north of Vanderbilt, Wednesday. The river is a trifle unsafe for crossing, at present, owing to the continued warm weather. Dr. Peter Johnson, Anton Nau den, Clif. Putnam and Tom Kiefer were in from up toward Winona yesterday. Ed. McConville was in town Tues day. He reports that his little boy, who was sick last week, is now well and entirely out of danger. Monday was a big market day in Pollock. More"farmers hereabouts come to town now on Mondays than any other day in the week. Anton Naaden marketed his week ly supply of cream at the Pollock station, yesterday, and received therefor the neat sum of $11.10. Louis Dornbush was out on the streets this week for the first time since his serious illness. Fie is still very weak, but expects lo be his old self again soon. Those who are weather-wise say that this December is the warmest since 1887. Probably the weather man is making amends for the cold and stormy November. Peter lior is getting signers for the establishment of a rural mail killing her instantly. He was lodg ed in the old jail at Wahpeton. Feel- route to run from Pollock in a north ing ran high, and during the night easterly direction to the old Thule a mob broke into the jail, placed a neighborhood. The route will be rope around the murderer's neck, fully thirty-six miles in length, led him to the old wooden bridge I Ed. Pulling isexpected home from across the river between Wahpeton Aberdeen next week. Mrs. Pulling and Breckenridge, and lynched him. will soon be able to leave the hospi The mob dispersed quietly, leaving tal there, and then, after a week's visit with her mother and sister in Aberdeen, she hopes to be able to return to Pollock. There are not many orchards in this vicinity whose product pays a profit reckoned in dollr-sand cents to its owners, but John Rosa has a young orchard from which even this year he marketed six dollars' worth of nice tame plums.
