J. Hagg, formerly in business in Linton, but now engaged in the lumber business in several towns west of the river, is spending the week visiting friends here. He came up Tuesday on the Milwaukee. A number of Hazelton people at tended the dance at Linton Thursday night of last week. They were the Misses Frances Paddock, Maiie Adolph and Lucy Hubbard and Messrs. Winch Batzer and Severin and Al. Mikalson. John Graham, formerly an Em mons county resident, but for years located at Wibaux, Mont., sends his subscripton money for the Record, and says that when that is used up to "put him on the pension list." He has been a reader of the Record since time immemorial. President J. H. Worst, of the Agri cultural College at Fargo, this week sends his check in payment for the Record. He says, "Having read the Record since its initial number, we are still reading it with great pleas ure. Always glad to hear from good, old Emmons county." Henry Smith, an employe on the old Otto Didzuneit farm east of Linton, is the possessor of a rare prize. Recently, while trying to catch a wolf, he found a marten in his trap. They are a small, brown animal, with long fur. and are ex tremely rare in this locality. The hide is valued at about $20. One of the most enjoyable dances Hennan Thoreson made a trip to I which have been held in Linton in a .ibiiiarck Monday to be with his |ong time was that given by the wife, who is receiving medical treat merit at one of the Bismarck hospi tals. band boys at the opera-house Thurs day night of last week. It was en joyable to them because of the fine addition the proceeds made to the band fund, and to those present be cause of the ideal conditions for dancing. G. W. Renskers and son, Thomas, were in Linton Monday. Mr. Rens kers has a full-blood Percheron stallion which has been sick for a week or so, and is being treated by Dr. T. W. Britts. Mr. Renskers believes that eating thistle hay was the cause of the animal's sickness. A letter from Hon. W. P. Tuttle, of Dawson, inclosing payment for the Rceord, is as follows: "Noticing and alluding to the new partnership, here is hoping that in time the Junior may be able to put on the shoes of the Senior, editorially, with out having to put cotton-batting in to fill them up." Col. Tuttle isone of the representatives in the state legislature from this district. A card from Noah Beilharz, the entertainer who will appear in com pany with his wife at the local opera house to-night, writes Manager Turner that he will be here on the N. P. in time, and that all prepara tions that will be necessary for a successful entertainment will be a large audience. Indications are that such requirement will be easily met. The members of the Clio Club were bidden to "Come in whitest frock to the Cameron home it three o'clock" last Friday, February 23d O CiOCK last rnuay, rcuxuay i: and were delightfully entertained by I the Mesdames Naramore and Cam eron. The rooms were beautifully decorated in crepe paper, carnations and snow-balls, and lighted with candles the entire color effect being red and white. The favors were in memory of George Washington. After an interesting program on THE STONE DRUG musical composers, the guests re paired to the dining-room and par took of a dainty four-course luncheon, after which they retired to their homes, proclaiming great praise for their hostsses. J. E. liolsti, one of the prosperous farmers of the Kintyre country, was in Linton yesterday paying taxes and visiting friends. Mr. HosUi was wearing a pair of calf-skin boots which were pretty nobby-looking. They were grown and manufactured in Eniim ns county. Mr. H. raised the steer from which the hide was taken, ami Henry Niemeia. Kin tyre. turned it into boots. Rumor has it that the proposed wrestling-match which was to have been he'd in Linton on March ^Jd between Claude Bidweil of Ha.:eiton and Mark Soiotnay of Linton has bet-n called oil'. So!finav,it seems, had demanded ur weeks in which to get himself in phy.-icai coiuiii i..n for the meeting, ami it is said that this arrangement did not meet the approval of.the northyountry con testant. Last weok'•'another large audience was on hand to see the pictures shown by Manager Turner at the moving picture stiow. The first was one of the noted Indian view.-, and gave those present a sight of real Indians and Indian ways. The other, "A Lover's Signal, depleted life in the southern states, and showed how the whistle, which the girl had been used to answering, brought her back to reason hen she was delirious from brain fever. Elsewhere in this issue appears a lodge card for the L. O. T. M. The members of that organization real ized the amount of good such a card does in letting stranger mem bers know that there is a lodge here, who its officers are and when it meets. A number of other 1.niton fraternal organizations have signi fied their intention of carrying such a card. The Knights of Pythias have always done so. From time to time the Record has been indebted to various business men for calendars, but one of the neatest which we have received is the 1H12 calendar gotten out by Ilr. R. R. Hogue. The calendar bears no advertising reading matter of any kind, and simply shows a picture of the Stone Hotel and the doctor's own more or less good-looking "phiz" inset in one corner. in a recent letter from J. 11. Reamer, who is now in Pittsburg, Pa., en business, mention is made of a state food and dairy show which was recently held there. Mr. Ream er was particularly struck by the many modern appliances for a dairy farm which were on exhibition. He says: "You can sit in the corner of your barn and feed your stock, clean out your barns, milk the cows, ami have ice cream come to you on a slab, by simply touching a button." This week, elsewhere in the Record appear some facts about the Linton Undertakers and the undertaking business in general. It is not in the spiritof advertising that such is giv en, but for the general information of the people. Smith & Irvine have been conducting their undertaking, business in Linton for six years ami have been called at dillorent times to practically all parts of the county, it being the only such linn in the county. Manager Turner,of the local mov ing-picture show,is making prepara tions in anticipation of a record breaking attendance at his show Sat urday night, March '.till, when he will show the film entitled "The Re turn of Cardinal Farley." Cardinal Farlev's return to New York from Rome, where he had been a visitor, is one of the greatest events in the history of lillL', a tremendous ovation being tendered him at that time. Half of the proceeds from the show will he turned into the treasury of the Catholic church at Linton. The same film will be also be shown at Strasburg, Friday, March Mb.
