Allensworth and Doerschlag, all of Braddock, spent Memorial Day in Linton. Andreas Kelsch went to Strasburg Saturday to have his little son, Wendelin, baptized. The youngster was born Wednesday. Mrs. Herman Backhaus, Miss Frieda Backhaus and Emma and Eva Dockter visited with Mrs. Backhaus' son the fore part of the week. The recent heavy rains washed out the bridges across Cattail creek, ac cording to reports from persons in Linton from that neighborhood. Chas. Coventry was elected direc tor and A. M. Britts treasurer of the Winhester school district at a school election in Linton Tuesday. of Amos Yonker, of the Phoenix Lumber Company, and J. P. Henn, of the Security State Bank, of Stras burg, were in Linton Thursday last. Vincent Shier has quit the survey crew and is now employed at the depot. Mr. Fisher, of Hague, who has been employed there, returned home. Jake Kremer, of the Bazar force, this week purchased a Ford roadster from Frank Irvine and is now to be numbered amongst the "speed fiends." George Dexter, Arthur Wooster, Charles Clark and Charles Lipp were in from northwest of Linton Thurs day of last week to attend Memorial Exercises. Secretary Slossun, of the Missouri Slope Development League, was in Linton Thursday of last week to as sist in the organization of a county association. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Burge were in Bismarck a few days last week, con sulting physicians about the lady's health, which has not been of the best of late. Messrs. K. Knutson, Hans Hanson, John Farness and Adolph Lee, of the Braddock neighborhood, were attending to business matters in Linton Monday. Miss Mabel McNeil, one of the Linton teachers, left Friday for Or tonville, where she will visit for a few days before returning to her home for the summer. A special meeting of the county commissioners was called this week to arrange for the re-building of some of the bridges washed out last week by the heavy rains. H. Kilmer, formerly a Linton res ident and at one time proprietor of the Linton House, but now a travel ing man, was visiting with old friends here last Thursday. Messrs. S. A. and AI. MiKalson and Norman Roop and the Misses Madsen and Adolph were Hazelton people who motored to Linton Fri day night to attend the dance. Messrs. Joseph Bollinger and John Biegler. of Strasburg, were in town Monday. They came to meet Bart. Biegler, the latter's son, who has been attending school at Richardton. Miss Dora Peterson, a former schoolmate of Mrs. E. H. Smith, is here from Mayville. N. D., for a few days' visit. The lady recently com pleted a term of school at Coopers town. Fischer left yesterday for Hazelton where he will have charge of the yard at that place while L. Lewis is on a vacation. A number of young folks were in quite a spill Sunday and only by good fortune escaped serious injury. While Florence Petrie, Florence Culbertson, Mildren Lynn and Em mons Peltrie were driving back from the Petrie ranch east of town the whippletree on the buggy broke, the 1 rig upset and Jthe horses ran away. 1 All nf thnse in the rig were thrown out but none hurt. The accident happened near the bridge across the Beaver a half-mile west of the Petrie place. Word has been received in Linton of the approaching marriage of Prof. E. A. Kling. formerly principal of the Linton school*. The gentle man is to mary Miss Olivette .Solnia Larson at her home in St. i'aul on June 12th and the couple will make their future home at Donnelly.Minn. A dancing party was given by the Linton Orchestra Friday night in the opera-house at which there was an exceptionally large crowd pres ent. The music was of a high order, the floor in good shape for dancing and all who attended expressed themselves as well satisfied with the evening'a entertainment. The many Linton friends of Mrs. H. W. Batzer and Mis Olive Mc Manus, of Hazelton, will be sorry to learn that they were called to tfieir old nome in Minnesota by the sud den death of a younger sister. They received the word Friday, drove to Braddock by auto and caught the train the same day. Chairman Reamer, of the Lmnions County Automobile Association, has directed us to notify those in Linton owning cars that they were assessed fifty cents each for incidental ex penses according to a vote taken at the meeting held here seine time since. Reamer, of the Emmons County Automobile Asso ciation is busy this week seeing that the road between Linton and „Temik is gotten in shape. Culvert ap proaches are being filled up, stones removed and muddy places filled in with chalk-stone. Fred Snyder, at Temvik, is also at work on the road and those who will have occasion in future to travel between Linton and Hazelton will find a great improve ment in the road. Adviees from other towns are to the effect that all that can be done on the small amount of money at the command of the directors is being done. Mrs. Weller, of Hartford, was surprised on Saturday, May Jtith when a number of her friends gath ered at her home to celebrate her 6Gth birthday. After doing full justice to a bountiful dinner, the surprisers were surprised to find it was also Mr. Weller's riatal day, he having arrived at the three-quarter century mark. Therefore, it became necessary to^have a second celebra tion, this time ice cream and cake being the subject to claim the undi vided attention of the guests. At the close of a day of feasting and pleasures all departed wishing the oid'couple many more years of pros perity and happiness. A special train over the N. P. will leave Linton Monday, .June loth, for Mandan immediately after the ar rival of the Milwaukee from the south. This train will bear a large crowd of Roman Catholics from Zeelar.d, Hague and Strasburg as well as from Linton to the Catholic State Meeting of the Diocese of IJis marck which will be held at Mandan at that time. Special trains from other districts .vill be run and it is expected that Mandan will be flood ed with Catholic visitors. The Strasburg band wiil be in attendance and all those who go will be out for a general good time. Don't forget the date, Monday, June loth. A large crowd attended she Me morial Day exercise.-, held in Linton last Thursday and both the exercises at the cemetery arid the jiterary pro gram were excellent. Ihe decora tion of graves at the cemetery in the presence of a large audience was something of a departure from the custom of pa-t sr.- of having the decorating done by a committee. Nearly all of the automobiles owned in Linton were fiiied with those who watched the decoration. In the af ternoon a program of music, songs and drills by the school children and addresses in FJnglish and German took place. The work of the school children was excepitonlaiy fine and received much well-merited prai.-e as did the teachers who drilled them. Rev. S. W. Hammond, of Steele, made the principal address of the day and bore out the reputation he has gained hereabouts of being a sensible as well as entertaining speaker. Rev. Cur series of special evangelistic meetings will begin Tuesday, June 2uth, and continue until Tuesday, July 2d. The next meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society will be held Wednesday, June lltli. It was expected that the base-hall team from Hague would give the Linton folks a return game hen Sunday but inquiry at the last mo ment elicited the information that they didn't have autos enough to bring the team up here and evident ly they didn't desire to use the horse propelled method of getting here. The Linton folks finally decided to go to Hazelton, although shy a pitcher, a first, baseman, etc., and there they played the first game of a double-header, Fort Rice taking on the north-county bunch for the second game. Hanson and Thompson pitched for Hazelton and Rogers and Shier for Linton. Hanson showed his usual steady form and only one score was made while he was in the box. Rog ers did well for about five innings but began to tire and the Hazelton folks raced aiound the bases, for twelve scores during the game. Lin ton managed to draw only eight tal lies. A hard side wind was blowing, making it difficult to throw accur ately. Accurate judging of Hies in the outfield was also impo-sible and frequent error:- and misjudging of balls resulted.
