V From all indications there is a lack of harmony among some of the promi nent Democrats of Wilmington, which lias been especially noticeable since the last Presidential election. Tho cause of this lack of harmony is said to have grown out of tlic fact that many of the politicians arc op posed to the way things have bccu run by Patrick Neary. The trouble first- started before tho election in the fall of 11)00. Neary was then told by a number of poli ticians, most of whom belonged to tho Democratic League that if he put all gold Democrats on the ticket, they would not support it. Neary is alleg ed to have said "The— with them and practically no one but gold Demo crats were put on the ticket. Thu consequence was the politicians kept their word. The ticket was not sup ported and the Democrats suffered defeat. That many of the Democrats and especially members of tuo Democratic League arc bitter against Neary and his gang, is evident from a meeting recently held at the League. At this meeting addresses wore made by William S. Meredith, presi dent of the League, and William S. Cloud, both of whom in strong lan guage denounced the way the Demo, eratio Campaign bad been run by Mr. Neary and his gang, Tho speakers said there must be a change ,for tlm benefit of tho party. They said if Neary and some others continued at, the head of tho affairs there would' be no Democratic parly in Wil* iniugton. There was a large attendance and the speakers were loudly applauded. While ho resolutions were adopted it was plain Uto Democratic League, proposes to make a strong light against local Democratic politics ' being run by the same old gawg. Some weeks ago Patrick Neary. an nounced that he would resign a*' chairman, of the committee as lie intended to get out of politics alto gether. He said that it was his in tention to devote all of his time to his business. Many people however doubt if Pat, is sincere about getting out of politics, as lie lias announced his withdrawal on several previous occasions.
