"Entered April 28.1003. at Kuthdrniu, I da rn utter, -O, an second-el CongroHtt of Murch 3, 1870. nder Act of Republican state delegate con vention, Wallace, May 12. Republican national conven tion, Chicago, June 10. Republican state nominating convention, Boise, Sept. 1. The Cœur d'Alene papers tire trying to make the people of Harrison believe that Hathdrum is to blame for depriving them -of the honor of entertaining the republican county convention and that for that reason Harri son should not support Rath drum in the county seat contro versy. The central committee voted tlie convention to Spirit Lake. It did not vote it to Harrison for the reason that it was not believed that that -city was entitled to the convention as a republican precinct. The county seat, controversy did not enter into the deliberations of the committee, and the fact that the Coeur d'Alene members of the committee, while they professed to favor Harrison, very readily joined in unanimously voting the convention to Spirit Lnke does not make it appear that they are entitled to any very great amount of consideration on that account at the hands of the voters and taxpayers of Harrison when they come to vote on the county seat question. Harrison was entitled to the democratic convention and got it. That was also politics, but the Hathdrum members of the democratic central committee did as much as any of the others to vote that honor to Harrison, thus proving that there is no enmity between Hathdrum and Harrison, nor any grounds for enmity. When they come to vote on the county seat the voters of Harrison can consider the ij il ca tion on its merits without preju dice. The county convention plums furnish no grounds for creating prejudice in Harrison for or against Hatlulrum or Cœur d'Alene. When the republican ticket in Kootenai comity is nominated. The particular "bug" is a man of middle age, well groomed and up to the last report wearing a smile that made Philadel phia famous. "Beg your pardon, sir," said the "bug," approaching a stranger at Forty-second street the other ing. "Would you do me a favor?" That depends on the amount," replied the stranger. "No, no, not that," said the "bug" in an injured tone. "I simply would ask you to adjourn to the interior of this palatial hostelry and join mo in a little drink." "I'm game," replied the stranger, aud a moment later they were fac ing the dispensary agent. "What's the lay?" finally asked the stranger. "Why am I honored with this invitation to drink with a man I never saw before?" The "bug" became confidential. "It's this way," lie said: "I prom ised my wife never to drink with a friend. Next she got me in a cor ner and made me promise never to drink alone. I can never take an other drink with you, sir. You've made me your friend for life." Then the "hug" went out, seeking another accommodating stranger.— New York Globe. even u King Edward Had No Cash. A valuable autograph is in the possession of a shopkeeper in Bond street in the form of a check signed by King Edward. It happened a week or two ago that his majesty entered the shop to make a pur chase and, finding himself not pro vicled with sufficient ready cash, pulled out his check book and drew a draft upon Messrs. Ooutts. The incident is probably without precedent, and it is certain that the check has not been presented at the hank for payment, the trades man much preferring to retain the document, as it is said that no other check payable to a tradesman and bearing the king's signature is in existence.
