FRATERNAL SOCIETIES
Coeur d'Aleue is leprescnted by
practically every prominent secret
order known in the west. The or
ganisations are not alone contined to
the older fraternal orders, but newer
ones are also established and in a
flourishing condition. Among
the oiders are -Masonio Blue
lodge, Chapters, Royal Arch and
Eastern star, and Temple Command*
ery; I. O. O. F., Knights of Pythias,
Pythian Sisters, Royal Neighbors of
America, Ladies of Maccabees, Cath
olio order of Foresters, Eagles,
Grand Army of the Republic, Wo
man's Relief Corpe, Rebekas, Royal
Highlanders, Woodmen of the
World, Scandinavian society, Women
of Woodcraft, Red men and Modern
Woodmen of Amerioa, and new ones
are organising from time to time.
The beneficiary features of many
of these orders are evident at the death
of its members. Fair and adequate
means are provided to assist the
afflloted In the darkest trials of life.
In addition, in some organizations,
an appropriate tombstone is guaran
teed the member at death. The
fraternal feature Is practiced on num
erous occasions. Kindness is extend
ed and sociabilities taught and prac
ticed. From time to time some soc

men and women are present. Amuse
ments of varolus kinds are enjoyed.
Good musio Is rendered and refresh

The Masonio lodgee have taken
preparatory steps to erect a large

their own lodge rooms.
The membership of the various or
ders Is generally|oomposed of the bet
ter grade of men and women. Few
"black sheep" are able to enter
Ooeur d'Alene lodges. The doors
are closed to all aueh. The members
aseume the obligations with the in
tention of discharging them and iu
but few ioetancea do they fall short.
Large sums are annually paid in
by the membership to assist the needy
and afflloted and the results deriv
ed are much better than reasonably
can be anticipated or expeoted. The
^ In fluen ce of the lodges, the loyalty
antTdovotlou of the membership and
the many and excellent charitable
aeta performed would be a credit
not ouly to a fraterualised town, but
also to n much older one.
