Crook, of Clayton, has gone to Omaha. Dr. Ratty returned to Custer yesterday. Cal Manasco is down from the Smartsville mine. W. S. Duniway was up from Lost river and returned today. Owen Long has been down from the Silver Wing mine for a •few days. J. Q. Adams has purchased Cal. Manasco's ranch, about 8 miles below Challis. Considéra^ tion $2,300. Mrs. J. P. Warren, sister of M..L. Crafts, of Custer, arrived from Montana Thursday and went to Custer Friday. Fred J. Keisel was elected mayor of Ogden by a majority of 439 by the Liberals. Dan Collins, of Saltnon arriv ed in Challis the other day. We learn from him that Col. Chas. A. Wood is not expected to live. William Everett, better known as "Teko Bill," an employe of the Greyhound mine at Seafoam in this county, was killed in a snowslide near that mine on Jan. 3, while digging a trail in the snow for the horses. The snow is very deep in that vicinity. Everett is known to have rela tives in Canada but they cannot be located. He was a man 45 years of age and well known in the vicinity of the Greyhound. Everett was about a half mile from the mine digging a path for the horses w'hen the heavy snow caved in on him for a depth of about 30 feet. Workmen mis sed the man at noon and soon afterward discovered him dead in the snow. Duncan Cameron, Coroner of Custer county, last.week receiv ed notice of an inquest, letter reads as follows : January 11th, 1909. Greyhound Mine, Stanley, Ida., ■ Coroner's Office, Challis, Cus ter county, Idaho:— This is to notify you of the death of Wm- Everett, who was caught in a snowslide at this place on Jan. 3rd, 1909. Paul Walter of the Forest Ser vice, stationed at Bonanza, Ida., reports that the Forest Service expects to install a weather ob servatory at Bonanza. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Walter will be Chief weather observers, and will keep ftO accurate record of the f mount of snowfall, rain, temperature, etc. W. A. Miss Mae Dellen of Bonanza has returned home from Mack ay, where she has been attend ing school since last October. The ladies of Custer have or ganized a skeeing club, the reg ulation uniform consisting of black bloomers, and sweaters of various colors. Miss Mae Dellen of Bonanza spent Sunday with Miss Lida Pfeiffer of Custer. Mr. Ross S. Tobias of the For est Service has returned to Leon creek, after spending Christmas and his annual vacation with the old folks at Sunfield, Idaho. The Golden Sunbeam mill has about run out of cordwood, and it is not expected to hold out longer than February 10th,when it will be necessary to shut down the mill for some time.
