Indorsement of the Susan B. An thony suffrage amendment was given tin January 22 by the state senate by unanimous vote in a memorial to the prosent congress asking that it be passed by that body. Approval will also be given to the measure by the house it. is declared. The house has already passed a memorial to those senators not now supporting the amendment requesting them to do so. 1 'minty division played an important part in the legislative proceedings of the 22nd. The senate passed the Jerome county division bill by u vote of 28 to 12. It creates a new county out of Minidoka, Gooding and Lincoln counties, with Jerome as the county seat. Tlte house laid its measure cre ating tlie county of Clark on the table, having received a similar bill which had passed the senate. The Caribou county division bill, seeking to create a new county out of the western portion of Bannock county, reached the third reading in the house, but was thrown into tlie committee of the whole for amendment. The Twin Falls delega tion attempted to block tlie introduc tion of the proposed Buhl county divi sion hill by moving that the bouse only consider such county division measures as the members from counties affected introduce. The house defeated the mo tion. The Buhl county measure has twice been before the legislature. Following a second heated debate in committee of the whole, the senate re •ommended for passage the Witty anti r i.tabling bill, which provides for the vy of an assessment against all prop erty used for gambling. Boise.—An appropriation of $50,000 from the state's fund to be apportioned at the rate of $1000 for each, county in Idaho that will raise a like amount for the construction of a county mem orial to soldiers that fought and died in the war against Germany, is pro posed in u bill Introduced on January 23 into the lower house of the legis lature. If this plan carries, it will do away with any special state memorial structure. LEGISLATIVE NOTES Building of a new dairy bam to cost $5000 and of n home for trusties estimated to cost about $7000 are two long-needed improvements to be made at the Idaho state penitentiary which Warden W. L. Cuddy, the new incumbent, will immediately com mence construction of should the legislature grant bis requests for ap propriations in the amounts stated. Reorganization of the Idaho national guard will be left entirely to the gov ernor if the legislature adopts house bill No. 36, introduced by Charles Johnson, Kootenai. A measure has appeared in the sen ate amending tlie workmen's compen sation act to make its provisions inap plicable to public school teachers and office and clerical employes. Senate bill No. 16, by W. H. Witty of Bannock, makes possible the clos ing for an indefinite period of build ings in which gambling is permitted.
