age in the world's crop is assigned
as the reason.
Lewiston, Concord and Asotin
have joined hands in preparations

The people of general Joe. Wheel
er's district in Alabama are unani
mous in their call to him to accept

The new mining camp, known as
Republic, in Stevens county, Wash.,
90 miles from Spokane, was almost
destroyed by fire laet week.
President Loubet, of France, was
brutally assaulted on last Sunday
by a lot of royal hoodlums. One of
the royal hoboes got his face mashed.
Our Idaho boys will be entitled
to from $61. to $81. Each regiment

In the central stales the heat is
intense, the thermometer register
ing from 86 to 96 degrees, Fahren
heit. We have not been troubled
in that way here.
Emanuel Kauffman and Miss
Antoine Louisa Willatowski, of

The "Hole in the wall" gang held
up a Union Pacific train in Wyom
ing or. last Friday morning, blew
open the safe, and carried away a
large amount of money and yalua
bles.
J. L. Dunn, ex-editor and an at
torney, and prominent mining man
from Pierce city, called at this of
fice last Sunday. Mr. Dunn is look
ing over the mining fields of Idaho
j county.
The union miners of Sandon, B.
C., are determined to hold out for
the old wages under the new eight
hour law. They are quiet and peace
able, but resolve to stand for what
they believe to be their rights.

In the habeas corpus case, argued
at Boise, the supreme court handed
down a decision sustaining maitial
law, and suspending the act. The
appellant will now go to the Su
preme court of the United States.
At the annual school election
held at Cottonwood, June 5, 1899,
a special tax of 5 mills was voted
to repair and seat the school house,
and fence and properly care for the
grounds, so that it can no longer
be said that no interest is taken in
the schools at Cottonwood. Mrs.
Lee Rhoades was elected as trustee
for two years, and J. B. York for
