The Prohibition county convention Saturday adjourned without making atiy nomination for county officers. Mr. C. R. Graves was elected chairman and M. O. Perry secretary. The coun ty committee consists of C. R. Graves chairman and A. J. Cook and C. J. Ilarlan. The convention adjourned to re-convene at the call of the chair man. From now on till election, believing the great interest of the people is centered on tho money question, we will devote nearly all our inside pages to discussions .of that issue. We are also moved to that plan' by the not able lack of silver literature and speakers in this county. It is very much as an exchange says, that a per son wanting a papor now without poli tics must depend either on fly paper or sand paper. Remember the concert given by the M. E. Hal stead, in the 34th year of her age. Deceased was born in Decorab, Winneshiek county, Iowa, Dee. 25th 1861. In 1803 her parents moved to Howard county, where they have lived ever since. She will be remembered as one of Howard counties best teachers where she has taught about twenty three terms of school. She wasunited in marriage to Mr. Halstead, Nov. 27. 1890. She leaves her husband and two small children, her father, three brothers and a sister to uiourn her untimely loss. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church, and her remains were placed to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1890. CARD OF THANKS. Democratic County Convention A delegate County Convention of the Democrats of Howard county will be held in the Court House, Cresco, on Tuesday, October 6. 1896, at 2 o'clocK p. m., for the purpose of nominating candidates for the follow ing (llces: Clerk of the District Court, County Auditor County Reoorder, County Attorney, And one member of Board of Super visors, and the transaction of such, other business as may properly come before the convention. The basis of representation will bo one delegate from each township,and one additional delegate for each 25 votes or fraction of 12 oast for W. I. Babb for governor in November 1895.
