HEARS FINANCE REPORT
Progress made by the Cham
pa ign-Urhana Kindergarten as
sociation was outlined at a meet
ing Tuesday evening in Doug as
Park community center, 510-12
East Grove street.
Mrs. Ruth Marshall, curriculum
supervisor for the kindergarten
which is open to the pre-school
children of the Douglas park
neighborhood, explained the pro
gram’s emphasis on preparing the
child so that he is “a wholesome,
expectant six” when he is ready to
enter school.
The budget report showed the
cost is $3,970 a year of which $2,
400 comes from’the Community
Chest. Mothers of youngst* r* en
rolled pay $3 monthly but the act
ual cost per child is $9.80 monthly.
A number of persons have donated
“scholarships” to make it possible
for more youngsters to be enroll
ed.

litical scene Tuesday with an over
whelming victory in the special
city election iri which Attorney
Glen E. Chapman captured all
seven wards by heavy pluralities.
- Defeat for the brief- tenuous

was underscored by the fact, that j
Chapman riot only trounced Item- ;
ocrat Ray C. Watrhorn by a better j
than two-to-one vote in the turn
out of 3,X42, but he also rode hi|fh
in what were supposed to have
been Democratic wards.
Chapman won 2,609 to Wat
horn ’» 1,23-1 This is his first ven
ture into polities.

of English in the University of
Illinois, is at present in Amster
dam, Holland, where she is work
ing on a book she is writing dur
ing her leave.

taking post graduate work He is
the son of Prof and Mrs. Leonard
Yntema who live in Waukegan.
Professor Yntema was formerly
a member of the University of Il
linois chemistry staff. Mrs. Ynte
rna is the former Jean Busey.
From Amsterdam, Dr. Busey
plans to go on to Luxembourg
where she will continue her work.
She left Tin- United States, sail
ing from New York last July.
