Today’s gue*t star is Francis Faye, the singing star of Frank Barbaro’s i Bowery Cluh. On tho air yesterday was Jerry Cooper the radio singing artist now appearing at Turek’s Troca dero Cluh. A collection taken up among patrons at the Troeadero and augmented by a contribution i from the management resulted in the purchase of more than 100 additional boxes for service men. State Workers Will Get Tests LANSING. Dee. 10.—Civil serv ice tests will be tfiven to the] state’s 2.700 unclassified employes' at once as a result of supreme court action, Director Thomas J. Wilson said, today. The court modified the tempo rary injunction issued by Circuit Judge Clyde V. Webster to allow: the commission to continue its ex- 1 amination program, but restrained the commission from firing any of the 2.700. TIMES WANT ADS Times' Santa Speeds Gilts To Service Men By JEROME PETTIT Fast nearing Iheir goal of "a Christmas box for every service man from the Detroit area,” Ihe Detroit Times Santa Claus foi Service Men workers today aie speeding their efforts in packing and shipping boxes that will be distributed at a •score of military and naval stations on Christmas morning. Up at Convention Hall huge trucks are lumbering up. laden with boxes lucked up from the different schools and recreation centers and inside the hall a corps of workers of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion under Mrs. Betty Golden, with Boy Scouts and volunteers from the Department of Parks and Recrea tion, are preparing the boxes for shipment, to the stations. Others who are giving splendid service are the principals and teachers of the schools and the members of thb Board of Educa tion staff and the Volunteers of America. EXPEDITE HANDLING Shipment to the military sta tions is being handled by a trans portation committee, headed by Don Smith of the Michigan Truck ing Association, and the distribu tion of the boxes to the men is in the hands of the chaplains and morale officers at these stations. While it is obvious that The De troit Times cannot publish any details of the disposition of troops or naval personnel, we can say that boxes from Detroit are being sent to Fort Winfield Scott at San Francisco.
