day at the Court house in special

The minutes of last meeting
were read and adopted.
On pyooion of Mlr. iroussard,
R. C. Smedes, Esqr., was employ
ed as Corporation Attorney for
the present year, at the salary as
previously fixed. $50.00 per an.
num, the same to begin running
equally with that of the other
officers of this body.
On'motion, It was resolved that
that the judgment in favor of the
corporation against Emile Duhon
in the 3rd. Justice Court on a
license of $25.00 as giver of public
balls, he and the same is hereby
ordered cancelled and the said
Duhon relieved from said license,
provided he pays one fourth of the
same. $6.25, and all costs of court;
and provided further that said
Duhon entirely suspends the said
business of giving public balls
within the corporation during the
remainder of the present year.
On motion of Mr. Brounsard, It

parish Taxes for the year 1878

Section 1st Be it ordained by
the police jury in and for the
parish of Vermilion.
That there shall be and is here
by levied on all taxable property
situated within the parish not spe
cially exempted under state laws
a tax of 3 mills for that pot tion of
the budget classed as criminal ex
penses and two mills for school
purposes; said taxes to be collected
on all property included within
the corporate limits of the town
of Abbeville. as well as upon all
other taxable .property of the
parish and for the balance of said
budget of expenses an additional
tax of seven, mills and also 2 mills
for school purposes to.be collected
from the taxable property of the
parish not included within the
corperate limits of Abbeville.
Sec. 2d Be it fui'ther ordained

and -appropriated to meet the
different items of the budget, as

No. 9 adopted October 1st 1877,

Art. 5. Resolved, that for all
delinquent parish taxes due on the
rolls previous to 1876 payable in
warrants, shall be collected in par
ish warrants issued prior to the
year'1877; provided, said warrants
are not prescribed by the laws of
this State; that all delinquent taxes
due on the rolls of 1876 shall beI
paid in legal currene3 only.
Art- 6. Resolved that the pro
visions of the ordinance entitled :I
'An ordinance to prohibit hogs)
from running at large within the
parish of Vermilion," adopted
April 1st 1878, shall apply to andj
have full force and effect in the 7th'
ward of this parish; and also full
force and effect in the 4th ward
from the 15th day of July to the
Ist of January.
Art. 7. Resolved that the par
i.h treasurer be and he is hereby
authorized to pay the claims of the
Sheriff for holding court during
the year 1877 out of the Magis
trate's and Constable's surplus
funds now in the treasury.
Art. 8. Resolved that the presi-,
dent of thin body and the parish
treasurer be and they are hereby
instructed to issue immediately
all Licenses on all trades, profess
ions and occupations for the year
1878, return the same to the Col
lector for collection, taking his
receipt therefor. Said Licenses to
be in amount the same as last year.

lowed and ordered to he paid out
