While the former organization was still in existence. it seenms that interest had about died out, and the Progressive 1 League and some members of the old or-, r ganization undertook the good and timely work of infusing` new vigor, spirit and t determination into the organization and s the results have certainly come up to all expectationms. With the efficient officersand brave and' capable fire laddies there is no doubt but that the organization will henceforth be in readiness to promptly respond to their duties and do all in, their power to subdue the lire demon whenever it makes its ap pearance in our thriving city. He said: t "About the only thing new in.our sec tiou is the good condition of our planters. We are not bothered by the high water and the planters are well advanced.with their work. The indications are that we will have fine crops. Oar parish is divid t ed bttweencotton, sugar and rice, and if we miss it on one crop we will hit it on another. The eastern part of the parish L is given over to cotton and ,:sugar, while the west is devoted to rice. Last year the rice crop was a disappointment, but the weather has been good and the indica- I tions are that there will be an abundant i supply of water for irrigation purposes. The big storm of last !Friday appeared to have spent its fury on Gueydan. It hailed quite hard for nearly two hours and the hail stones were a foot deep in ' places. On top of all this there r was a veritable flood of rain. of Our Gueydan correspondent writes: "Everything is under water _ here; the Bayou Que de Tortue is rj higher than it has been for the last thirty years. No rice planted as yet and unless things change and it quits raining there won't be any planted Sfor some time to come.
