S. DECKER, Tra.t.u Maner. U. P. A ,t: POLICE JURY PROCEEDINGS. o0 Abbeville, La., Aug. 8th, 1901 The Police jury for Vermilion C Parish met this day in regular sess ion, President, and 'essrs. P. Dupre LeBlano, Jules Thibodeaux, Sidney Andrus, Ernest Broussard, J. M. Mestepey, J. N. Foutz and Thos. it Hoffpauir. The minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. Attorney White appeared with Mr, r Vincent, relative to the serving of F notices of Jury of Freeholders, to trace a road in 6th Ward. I Dr. W. G. Kibbie et als made a e complaint relative to the public road, s near the bridge at Abbeville. U On motion Mr. Elias Blanchet was s appointed Road overseer, vice Mr. Naquin, excused. On motion duly seconded Mr. E. M. Stebbins was appointed a com mittee of one to have the road near the Abbeville bridge repaired. The returns of the election held in the 8th ward, relative to the leveying of si 5 mill tax for road' purposes having been presented and the said election being almost unanimous in favor of said tax. Therefore be it resolved that the Parish Assessor be and is hereby instructed to assess i against all taxable property within the limits of said 8th ward for a term W: H. On motion duly seconded, Messrs, A. F. Hambleri, E. C. French, John Bresnan, Louis Dugas, Caesar Brous sard and Emmet Watts, were appoint ed a Jury of Freeholders to trace a road leading from public road ruin ing north and south through sec 27 1 and 48 in Tp 12 2 or 3 west to Lake Arthur. Mr. Mestepey made complaint relative to road at crossing on the Hall & Slutz Canal. On motion duly seconded, Mr. Russel Rice, Overseer is hereby in structed to notify the manager of 1 said upon his failure to do so, to have same repaired at the expense of said Company. (7) and (12) Tp. 12 S R 2 East. Mr. Nugier appeared rela tive to having the Bridge at Perry repainted. On motion duly . seconded, bids for the repainting of the bridge at Perry; be and are hereby advertised for parties to specify kind & quality of paint to be used, with sample of same, accompanying bid. The said bids to be presented to this body at their next regular meeting. On motion of Mr. Andrus, the Agt, of the Hunter Canal Co. was called, relative to the closing of the natural drains in the 4th ward. Whereupon Mr. White, agt for said Canal Co. stated that the Canal Co. were willing to take such steps as would be agreable and after fully discussing said subject, the following resolu tion was adopted. O On motion of Sidney An drus: Be it resolved, tlat the T road overseer, of the Ist road iE district of the 4th Ward, is tý hereby notified to notify the c Hunter Canal Co., Limited, to place flumes, and to remove ° within five days any and all r obstructions to the natural s low of water and upon the fre- s fusal of said Comyany to com ply with this order, then the I road overseer, is ordered to re move said obstructions at the cost of the Company, this res- r olution having respect, partic- 1 ularly to the obstruction and 5 natural flow of the water near Camile Hebert's. On motion duly seconded, Messrs. Gerard Frederick, Antoine D. Broussard, Antoine Frederick, Lastie Frederick, Euplie mon Guidry, and Louis Frederiek Were appointed a jury of Freeholders to trace a road, to begin at Concess ion road to connect with road leading to M-auriceville in 4th Ward. A communication was received from the keeper of the Abbevill bridge which was referred to the com mittee on bridge. On motion the sum of 30 cts per diem was allowed Mr, Fernest Meaux as keeper of bridge at D. O. Broussard crossing. Mr. Mestepey reportted on rent of skiff for Baneker, also the sale of old bridge at Perry Mr, Williams reported the com pletion of centract for coustrucJion of bridge at I). 0. Broussard crossing, and the notion of committee was ap proved. Mr. Williams also reported the completion of the ferry flat at Banck 4 er, which report, I was accepted and committee was dis charged. Abbe'tille, La., Aug, 8, 1904 To the President and meti bers of the Police Jury of Ver milion Parish, La. Gentlemen: We your Court House Com mittee beg to recomme nd to your Honorable Body the fol lowing changes and improve ments: Ist- We recommend that all advertising signs be ordered off of the Court House fence and that they be kept off. 2nda We recommend that the gates be kept closed and that stock be kept off the- grounds. 3rd- We recommend that a resolution be passed prohibit. ing, positively, the hitching of horses within the limits of the Court House grounds. 4th- We recommend that the leaks in the roof of the Court f House be repaired at once. - 5th- We recommend that the (Continued on fourth page)
