Leon' BIrcker, vividly portrays what words fail to express-the horrible sufferin: of the women and children of Armenia and adjacent countries. Peace lha blessed Europe and America for more than a year but in Western Asia coln diltions more frightful than any war time experiences of the martyred popu lations of Belgium and France still exist. Thousands of women and children escaped massacre by the Turkish soldiers only to face the terrible agonies of death by starvation. At the present time it is estimated that 1,250,000 adults and fully 2.A.000 orphaned children are completely destitute and in imminent danger of death by starvation and exposure. The Near East Relief, 1 Madison Avenue, New York, is at present the only organization giving aid to these suffering people and lack of funds still prevents the reaching of more than a small part of the stricken people. "Before and After" in the Near East "BEFORE." "AFTER." From misery to comfort and self-respect in five days' time, simply through the magic of an American ten dollar bill, is a transformation that is being: wrought dally. in Western Asia by the Near East RTellef of 1 Madison Avenue. New York City. The group of five Armenian children shown in two piicturses here have reason to bless the American donor of that ten dollar bill. \;ith this money, the expert workers of Near East Relief in Armquiln were able to rid the poor children of their loathesome rars and to clothe them with new garments of alaja cloth, woven in a Near East Relief Industrial plant and sewed into garments by the mother of the children. The mothter was al~eI paid a small fee for her services in making the garments. I This was a lucky family. There are thousands of others not so luck. In the Near East. simply because of a lack of other ten dollar bills. Near East Relief is asking the American people to contribute fuinlel to save the starving In the Bible lands. It Is estimatedl that over 1.25i.0trl adults are In desperate need. and 250,000 chlldren are orphans and mjust i,, cared for. For the sum of $180 a year Near East Relief cnn not only f(e.l and clothe and shelter an orphan child, but can also give n cours.e in et,:.c, tlon towards ultimate self-support and Independence. Julla had been over to see the nelgh. ber's new baby and upon her return was asked how she liked it, to which she replied: "Well, mother, it is all right, only the stork must h&ve been a long time on the way with it, for it esrtalnly is awfully tanned." or1don Tire Sefrv~ic Co.
