DEAUNG WITH THE UN-DEPORTED America consists of Americans and of nothing but Americans. Those, who within the past few years have come to think of America as a vast mixture of languages, races and clashing doctrines, have had the wrong viewpoint. They have been thinking of America as a place, and not as an ideal. Millions of immigrants have crossed the ocean from the Old World. They have reached our shores, but many of them have never reached America. On the other hand, many of our native born are not now and never have been Americans. There is no such thing as an "Amer ican Red." There is no such thing as an "American I. W. W." f An American is a man who feels American, thinks American and acts American—no matter whery he was born. America has plenty of room and a ! warm welcome for those who wish to become Americans, but it cannot spare a single square foot of soil to those who intend to continue un American and anti-American. What about the re mainder? There is but one answer: They must be Americanized. This, however, is not a task for the Department of Justice, not even for Congress and the various state legis latures; it is a task for the rank and file of American citizens. It is a task of education plus, and of influ ence plus; it is really a task of moral coercion. It is a task for swift and energetic action, wherein American citizens in all their vast numbers must seize opportunities when they exist, and create opportunities when they do not exist, to Americanise all who comer within their own circles or else to cast «them oat of their circles. It is no time to talk of'"broad minded sympathy," or of "concilia tion," where a great question of right and wrong is involved. You cannot "conciliate" evil any more than you can "concilate" a conflagra tion. Dr. S. P. Dean and James Graves, sales manager for the Riley Taylor Company, were the week-end guests of C. £>. Moss. NOT TOO LATE TO SEND YOUR CHECK If you have not sent your check to M. Marx for the Jewish Relief Fund, it is not yet too late to give some child who has not known a full meal in five years, who has no hoinq or friends—$10.00 will keep one of these children for a month, and pos sibly save its life. If you could just realize how much good a few of your dollars would do, you would send your contribution now. Suppose your little child was without a full meal in five years, had no place to sleep and no one to care for it when it was sick. Then think that there are 800,000 of them in Europe. No canvass will be made of the city to solicit funds, as those in charge feel that the cause is so worthy that no solicitation should be made, or will be necessary. It is the first time- the Hebrew citizens of Bogalusa haved asked J*or your help. You'll not only be helping a worthy cause, but sowing your appreciation of the many times that they have as sisted in every civic, charitable or patriotic work. 350 NEW SCHOOL CHILDREN HERE When the plant of the Great Southern Lumber Company and the Bogalusa Paper Company were closed last fall, there was a falling off in attendance at the schools of the city, until just prior to the holi days there were 500 less than at th« opening of the schools. How fast the schools are refilling is best explained by the superintend ent, Professor Ràtliff, who an nounces that'since the holidays there have been about 350 new pupils en rolled, and at the present rate the schools of the city will have a larger attendance by March 1 than when the schools opened last fall. Families from as far away as Ore gon, are coming to, Bogalusa and al most every state in the Union has contributed to Bogalusa's population since the early part of December.
