have petitioned the police jury o,f
the parish of Grant for an election
in aid of public schools of school
district number twenty-one, of the

To the Honorable Police Jury,
Parish of Grand, Louisiana:
We, the undersigned citizens
and property tax payers of Mont
gomery soch~d district No: 21, be
ing more than one-fifth in number
of the resident tax payers of the
said district, respectfully petition
your honorable body to order a
special election in the above nam
ed and numbered district as soon
as practical, as provided by the
laws of the State of Louisiana, for
the purpose of submitting to the
property tax, payers and qualified
voters the question of levying a
special school tax of five mills on
the dollar for, a period of Ave years
in aid of the public schools in said
In the event the said tax is voted
on all propeity liable to taxation
in said districtit aball be used for
the purpose of paying teachers' sal
aries, repairing q- building schoel
houses, and for the general welfare
of the schobol of said district.

Therefore, be it ordained by the
police jury of the parish of Grant,
regular ssi-i ea ; -
hereby ordered, in compliance with
the above petition, an election to
be held at the Montgomery pre
cinct,,in ward seven, school district
Mtenty-one, to be held on
TUESDAY,. March 1, 1910,
to take the census of the voters of
the school district No. 21 on the
question of levying a five mill tax
for a period of five years, 1910,
1911, 1912, 1913, and 1914, on all
taxable property iu said school dis
trict in aid of the public schools
therein, for payment of teachers'
salaries, general school purposes,
etc., as stated in said petition.
Section 2-Be it further resolv
ed, etc., That there shall he print
ed on the ballots used at the said
election the words: "For the spe
cial tax of f#ve mills for five years,
1910, 1911, 1912, 1913, and 1914,"
and "Against the special tax for
the years 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913,
Section 3-Be it further ordain
ed, etc., That in the event a ma
jority in number and amount of
the voters voting at the said elec
tion vote in favor of the said tax,
then the said tax shall be carried
in favor thereof, otherwise not, and
if in favor, then the police jury at
