The Republi~an party is hav ing a hard time mustering a quo rum in the parishes. Even the Republican Execu tive Committees have registered as Democrats in order to vote for the "Democratic Good Govern ment League." In Iberville parish the chair man of the Republican Execu tive Committee issued a call for a meeting of his committee, and to his dismay found that every member of the committee had joined the Democratic party! "Of course these Republicans will again join the Republican party when they will have fin ished helping Boss Parker dis rupt the Democratic party," says the Iberville South. A friend from New Orleans related an incident which occur red during the registration in that city. A Republican office holder, an employee of the Cus tomhouse, applied to him to "help him through"changing his affilia tion from the Republican to the Democratic party. "But," asked our friend, "are you sincerely a IDemocrat now?-do you now be lieve in the principles of the Democratic party?" TRIBUTE TO A WORTHY IADY EIs e nile Carrm., It lsle, ietg Great Wrt Nr The Fwesr Class.. The New Orleans Picayune of the 15th contained an article commenting briefly on the life and work of Miss Minnie Car ron, ofE unice, Secretary of the State Farmers' Union. The article is accompanied by a photo graph df Miss Carron. The Clarion reproduces the article with pleasure, and wishes to add on its part that ¶Miss Car ron is worthy of an enconiums which might be bestowed upon her by the press and the people of Louisiana. She is made of the metal com posing the great women of this country, and we may expect more-rom this bright Louisim.a ian, as her work has just begun. The article from the Picayune follows: - "A Louisiana girl, reared on the farm and educated in the Louisiana schools, she taught school for several years, and in December, 1907, resigned her position in the Eunice High School to attend business school. She attended Walden's College at Lake Charles and completed a combined business course from that place in November, 1908. While at college she became in terested in the labor question and the Farmers' Union. She saw where she could be of use to the organization, and as soon as possible affiliated with it. "Miss Carron was initiated March 3, 1909; elected chairman of the district executive com mittee on April 8; elected secre tary-treasurer of the Avoyelles St. Landry Distriet Union o July 18, and was nominated sec retary-tre~iiurer td the Louis iana Division on July 26, losing by a small majority. "Miss Carron is founder of the Young People's Farmers' Union League, an organization similar to that of the older membership. It is purely for the education and uplifting of the younger genera tion of tillers of the soil and is confined to children of working men. "Miss Carron served as officer in her local and always was a committee worker. "Miss Carron was elected state secretary of the Louisiana Pam erms' Union on July 29, 1910, at Alexandria, being the second lady ever elected to that position and the first lady to hold a posi tion o the state staff of this "Pshaw! you know better tha. that,'" replie4 - the =Republica who wanted to be washed in the water of Democracy. "But I want to vote, as all of my Re publican comrades are register ing to vote in the primary, and I have instructions to do the same. " "But, " insisted our Democratic friend, desirous of finding out something, "if you register to vote in the Democratic primary, you will suiely vote the regular Democratic ticket-I suppose it is a scheme of the Democratic ring to get you Republicans to vote for it?" "No, indeed," promptly re plied the Republican, "the ring is the very thing we are in structed to burst; with the going of the ring goes the Democratic party-see?" That is the state of affairs now existing in this State. The "bursting of the Demo cratic party" is the aim of the Republican party. The getting of their hungry snouts into the slop barrel of the regular Democratic organization, is the aim of, the disgruntled Democrats who have made com mon cause with the Republicans. state. She was re-elected unani mously on July 27, 1911. Miss Carron has given perfect satis tion in every respect. In office and field work she is an active and enthusiastic worker, never failing to respond to a call for a lecture, it matters not the dis tance nor the inconvenience. Of course her office duties come first. "Miss Carron is editor of the Firmers wion Messenger, a : paper devotfto the in rest ef tiFaesUniona.nd the official organ of the.Louisiana Division. The paper is a year old n`d has a circulation of neay`t2oo0. uMis Carron served one year as manager of the Farmers' Union store at Eunice, she being t. o .ly lady ever to serve in tht capacity. This position she held with honor and credit to herself aid the company." ALL THAT IS LEFT If THE P1111 [PUBLICAN PARTY.
