A LICENSE ORDINANCE An ordinance for the levying and collecting of Parish Licenses for the year 1916: Be it ordained by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Lan dry in regular session con vened: Section 1. That the license laws of the State of Louisiana now in force shall in so far as applicable be the license ordi nance of the Parish of St. Landry for the year 1916, ex cept as hereinafter modified and changed: Section 2. That the annual license for peddlers and hawkers in one and two horse vehicles shall be $15.00 and $20.00 respectively; Section 3. That the amount to be paid as an annual license tax by retail dealers in dis tilled, alcoholic and malt liquors shall be graded as fol lows: First Class: When the gross annual sales shall be $30,000.00 or more, the li cense shall be $2,500.00; Second Class: When the gross annual sales shall be Tess than $30,000.00 and not more than $20,000.00 the li cense shall be $2,000.00; Third Class: When the gross annual sales shall be less than $20,000.00 and not more than $10,000.00, the license shall be $1,500.00; Fourth Class: When the gross annual sales shall be $10,000.00 or less, the license 1 shall be $800.00; Section 4. ANNUAL TAX ORDINANCE Whereas, by resolution adopted on October 4th, 1915, this body framed a uidget of Eighty-One Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty-Six and 20-100 Dollars, ($81,326.20), as an estimate exhibiting the various items of expenditure that the parish of St. Landry would require for the year 1916, and Whereas, said budget hai been published in the St. Lan dry Clarion, the official news per of this parish, for the term of thirty (30) days as the law directs, and Whereas, an ad valorem tax of ten (10) mills on the dollar of the taxable property of this parish will be required in addition to the revenues to be derived under the license ordinance adopted to meet said budget; Now therefore, Be it ordain ed by the Police Jury of the Parish of St. Landry, that a tax of ten (10) mills on the dollar be, and is hereby, levied on all taxable property situ ' ated within this parish on ) which the State levies a tax, ) to meet said budget of expen ditures for the year 1916. ORDINANCUE NO. 5 An Ordinance Ordering a special election t be held in School Distict No. 1 of the 1st Police Jury Ward of the Parish of St. Landry, La., for the pur pose of submitting to the qualified electors of said school district the queston of the levy of a special tax of two and one-half mills ($.0025) for the purpose of providing additional aid to the public schools of said school district. Section 1. Be it ordained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., £hat a special election be, and is hereby or dered to be held in School District No. 1 of the 1st Police Jury Ward of the Parish of St. Landry, La., on the 11th day of January, 1916, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of the said school district entitled to vote thereat the question of a levy of a special tax of two and one-half mills ($.0025) on the dollar on all property subject to State taxation, for a period of five years, the proceeds of said tax to be used in giving additional aid to the public schools of the said school dis trict. Section 2. Be it further or dained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., That the ballots to be used at said elec tion shall be prepared by the Secretary of the Parish Board of School Directors, and shall be in the following form: Proposition to levy a two and one-half mills ($.0025) special I tax on all the proper- Yes. ty subject to taxation in School District No. 1 of the 1st Police Jury Ward of the Parish of St. Landry, La., annually, for a period of five years,I No. for the purpose of giv ing additional aid to the public schools of said school district. Be it further or dained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., That the Secretary of the Parish Board of School Directors be, and he is hereby ordered to cause to be prepared for use at said election the tally sheets, lists of qualified electors, assessed valuation of property, blank statements for the compila tion of the vote, in number and amount, and other election blanks that may be required for the purpose of holding the said election, to cause the same to be placed in the bal lot box for the use at the pre cinct, and to make provision for the transmission of the box to the precinct at which the election is to be held. Section 4. Be it further or dained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., That the polling place at said election shall be at the Courthouse at Opelousas, La., and H. D. Larcade, Sr., F. J. Hardy and J H.I Harmanson are appaint ed commissioners and Ludovic Fontenot, clerk of election. Section 5. Be it further or dained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., That the Parish Board of School Di rectors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., shall meet at 11:00 o'clock A. M. on the 13th day of Jan~iuary, 1916, for the purpose, Ia open ses sion, of examining and count ing the ballots and canvassing the returns and declaring the result of said election. Section B. Be it further or dained by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., That: the President of the Parish Board of School Directors be, and he is hereby instructed to givfe public notice of said election by proclamation to be duly published, according to law in the following form: Unanimously carried: PROCLAMATION. Pursuant to a resolution passed by the Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., at a spe cial meeting held. on the 6th day of December, 1915, I, J. G. Carriere, Vice President of said Par ish Board of School Directors, hereby give notice that in compliance with said resolu tion, a special election will be held in School District No. 1 of the 1st Police Jury Ward of the Parish of St Landry, La., for the purpose of submng to the property ~tapayers qualified under the constitu tion and laws of the State of Louisiana to vote at said elec tion, the following proposi tion, to-wit: To levy a special tax of two and one-half mills ($.0025) on the dollar on all the property in school District No. 1 of the 1st Police Jury Ward of the Parish of St. Landry, La., subject to State taxation, annually, for a peri od of five years, for the pur pose of giving additional aid to the public schools of said school district. For the purpose of said election the polling place will be at the Court House at Ope lousas, La., and the following commissioners and clerks have been appointed to serve at said election, H. D. Larcade, Sr., F. J. Hardy, J. H. Har manson; Ludovic Fontenot. At said election the poll will open at sevin o'clock A. M. and will close at five o'clock P. M., and the election will be conducted in accord ance with the laws of Louis iana applicable thereto. Notice is also given that at 11 o'clock A. M., on the 13th day of January, 1916, the said Parish Board of School Directors of the Parish of St. Landry, La., will meet at the School Board Office, Opelou sas, La., and in open session proceed to open the ballot box, examine and count the ballots in number and amount, examine and canvass the re turns, and declare the result of said special election.
