MOTION PICTURES PAR EXCELLENCE Movie fans must have been de lighted with the pjrogram at the Evangeline Sunday night. Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford both the same night. No wonder the house and the entrances were crowded and packed and jammed with eager pa trons. And no wonder that they were all delighted with the film enter tainment which Manager Sol Loeb feasted their eyes on. Publisher Review: Will you please insert the follow ing in today's issue, relative to Con stitutional Amendment No. 5 which will come before the voters of Mor gan City in tomorrow's election. The purpose of Amendment No. 5 is to permit women to hold official positions of Factory Inspectors, dir ectorships upon Schools, Eleemosy nary, Penal and Correctional Boards of the State. I can conceive of no argument a gainst it that is not founded on bigo try prejudice or ignorance. A greater proportional number of women, at the lease, are capable, more intense ly interested and in better sympathy with the subjects and principles in volved and are consequently more agressive and persistent in their en deavors to carry out the laws regu lating and governing the conduct of such institutions. They support main ly our churches and Sabbath schools by their effort and constitute a large their efforts and constitute a large part of the congregations. I think that nine-tenths of school teachers are women; our Civic Leagues, King's Daughters, Mission ary Societies and most other organiz ed charity movements are largely carried on by women. To extend thse additional privileges provided by Amendment No. 5 is but slight acknowledgement of their efforts for us and our children. It is a step in the right direction. We voters can give it to them and they are worthy. Let us appreciate the ability and sevice of women and adopt a right and liberal minded attitude by voting for this amendment tomorrow. Respectfully, C. R. BROWNELL. PRESBYTERIAN LADIES AID WILL SERVE ELECTION LUNCHEON. The promoters of the latest idea in good roads for Lafayette—that of doing away forever with the pres ent dirt roads by covering them with a thick, frim layer of gravel— called on the police jury Thursday afternoon while the body was in re gular monthly session, and as a re sult the jurors agreed to meet again on the 11th of this month and act on the matter of calling an election for a special tax to pay for the work. There is every indication that the proposition will be pushed with the characteristic energy of Lafayette boosters. No sooner was the news of the movement given out Thursday, as it appeared in yesterday morn ing's issue of the press, then the first step, was taken to submit it to the people. From what can be gathered, from the press in conversation with citi zens from various sections of the par ish is seems certain that the idea of building permanent roads all over the parish is acceptable generally and that the proposed tax of five mills for twenty years will be voted. When the Police Jury issues the call for the election, as no doubt that body will, the promoters of the idea will wage a campaign for the tax in every ward; but as said be fore, the sentiment of the people seems to be so markedly in favor of the proposition that a campaign will not be needed.—Lafayette Press.
