Philadelphia, March 19.—A num ber of sailors from the German commerce destroyer Prinz Preder ich and Kronprinz Wilhelm interned at the Philadelphia navy yard, at tempted to escape tonight, accord ing to the police, who were sum moned to the scene. Most of the men are said to have been captured, some of them having been fished out of pools of water in the marshes on the outskirt of the yard. Lieutenant Graham, who led the detachment of mounted police,, said that four of the Germans made their escape and still were at liberty. Eleven of the sailors, he said, had attempted to get away, but seven had been captured, two of them while swimming across the back channel. Marines from the yard and the police are searching for the escaped sailors in the vicinity of the yard, while flyers have been sent to all police stations throughout the city to be on the lookout.
