Seraal Big Concerns In Parish Ghre Dollar to Red Cross For Every Dollar Given by Employees When, the F. B. Williams Cypress Company of Patterson announced that they would give a dollar to the St. Mary Chapter of the American Red Cross Society for every dollar given by their employees during the present week (and loan the em ployees the amount they wished to contribute) they struck a method of expressing their patriotism that is proving popular in other parts of the parish. Brownell-Drews Lumber Company of Morgan City and the Ramos Lumber Company have stated that they will follow out the plan suggested by the Patterson patriots. Not only are these big concerns giv ing a dollar for every dollar contri buted by their employees but they are loaning the money to their em ployees and permitting them to re turn it in installments which will be easily met Other employers will pro bably fall in line on this plan in or der to encourage the support of the Red Cross Society and to again place St Mary Chapter in the lead of all chapters in the State. The Texas Company and the Weddel-Wilhams Lumber Company of Morgan City have announced that they will ask each employee to con tribute one day's salary to the 8t Mary Red Cross Chapter. Th< companies will give their men the privilege of paying their donation fa monthly installments. Beth these concerns are large employers end their assistance in the Red Cross work will help tremendously. It is said that the contracts calls for the hulls o 1 ten wooden vessels only and that the big firm of contractors is now figur ing with the Shipping Board on fur nishing the vessels complete. This would mean that the contract price of the vessels would run nearly twice the amount represented by the cost of the hulls only. , ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVID UALS INVITED BY RED CROSS TO HELP PAY FOR SOLDIERS' MESS HALL. Do you not want to add your name to the list of patriotic organi zations, firms and individuals who are volunteering to give financial aid to the Red Cross Society in the expense they have incurred in erect ing the screened mess hall in Law rence Park for Company "C". The total cost of the building is $250.00 and the St. Mary Chapter of the Red Cross is giving $150.00 of this amount. The khaki boys now station ed here have quarters where they may get all the pleasure possible during their training period and dur ing their service here as guards for important structures along the Southern Pacific. Proper notice has been given the property holders to this effect by Commissioner of Streets Squires, and if arrests are made as a conse quence of disobeyance of the man dates of the ordinance, it may be humilating, therefore it would be a' wise move on the part of those who have neglected thie work, to get basy and dear this unsightly growth from their property. June 18-17. Mr. C. E. King, Editor Morgan City Daily Review Dear Sir:— About the first of this month we advertised a special 10 day June sale in your paper, we were very agreeably surprised at the results, heretofore we have been using big hand bills and did not think that any other form of advertising would pay, this year we used your medium exclusively, and found that we not only got a better class of trade, but our business was equally as good as our previous sales, at a much less expense. We will be in a position in a few days to contract for further space, as we expect to put on our annual pre-inventory sale, in a few weeks. Yours truly, Henry Loeb Co., Ltd. Mrs. M. P. Palmer takes this method of extending her thanks in behalf of the St. Mary Chapter of the Red Cross Society to those who have so generously met the occas sion and eepecially Mr. Sol Loeb for his donation of the gross receipts of the Evengeline Tuesday night, also the Imperial Jewelry Company for their contribution of the beautiful cut glass piece which was given away at that time, also Mr. Cyrus Angellox for his services and the use of his automobile, and each of those who purchased tickets for the bene fit performance.
