The Committee on a Permanent Home for the business men's organi zation is making great strides for ward. Several plans for the financ ing of this building have been pro posed but it has been practically de cided that the first ten individuals, institutions or corporations to offer $150.00 each will be the donors of the building. After the cost of the building has been donated, further donations will be received in any amount for the furnishing of the rooms. The donors of the furnishings will be enrolled on a bronze tablet which will be incorporated as a part of the building and made a per manent record of those whose gener osity supplied the necessary equip ment and furniture. The Committee on Plans and Specifications have submitted a re- port and Messrs. Pettigrew, T. G. Thorgeson and W. B. Reed have furnished a handsome building which will be both practical and beautiful. An etching of the propos- ed building is being made and The Review will publish same in a few days. -Other committees on special as- signments are busy and the Cham- ber of Commerce is coming into un- rivaled recognition as the greatest factor in the industrial affairs that Morgan City and Berwick have ever been blessed with. The power of tins organization has already been de- monstrated locally and it is reaching out with amazing rapidity into every direction in behalf of the economic interests of this entire territory. Secretary Palmer is receiving the helpful co-operation of all the offi- cers of the commercial body and the harmonic effort being exerted is bringing results that are almost un- believable. The membership of the Chamber of Commerce is growing yast and it is believed that within a few weeks every business man, pro- perty owner or employee in the sis- ter cities will be enrolled and doing his bit to help his home community. This num- ber is increasing daily and by the time the six ways are completed and ship construction begins, it is esti- mated that about twelve hundred men will be working. Mr. Con Cole- man of Kansas City, superintendent of the shipyard, reached here Tues- day and at once took charge of oper- ations. EVANGELINE FRIDAY A married' man wins th^ love of a trusting girl. His wife dus overs him. He marries the girl, then blames her for the disaster" in his life. 'She quits him and faces poverty. Kindly persons obtain employment for her as a trained nurse. In that work she nurses a young American millionaire back to health. She loves him; he loves her. They are married. Sre tells him nothing of her past. Years go by, and a tiny soul stands waiting at the threshold of their home. The wife is wrapped up in that child. She dreams of it, plans for it —and then comes to her the thought that her own silence means she is de- ceiving her husband, and that the waiting soul may suffer by it. She decides to tell him all. She does so. And she learns that her husband is the type of man she had not sus- pected. It is a remarkable play which shows that truth always triumphs. ; NEW PENSION LAW Ex-Soldiers, sixty-two (62) years of age and over; also widows of such soldiers, regardless of age, who ser ved in any campaign against the In dians .between the years 1859 and 1891, are entitled to a pension un der tiie Act of Congress approved March 4th, 1917.
