The garbage can is one barometer of patriotism in war time. It shows the waste in the house hold. One way to win the war is to pro duce more food. Just as important is the preevn tion of food waste. Follow the gospel of the "clean plate." The world needs food. Don't use more than you need. It's loyalty in war time to talk, study and practice thrift. Watch the corners in preparing food for the table. Careless cook ing means waste. Cook all potatoes with their "jackets" on. Peeling*, robs the po tato of valuable food mineral salts. Water in which vegetables are .cooked is rich in mineral salts. Use Ï them for soups and in other foods. Don't throw away fats. They are , needed for food, munitions and j soap. Use fat trimmings and drip pings from meat in cooking, or in manufacture of soap. Join Amer jea's army of "food-savers." j State Council of Defense, JOHN MARSHALL, Secretary. The banks all over the district have adopted various plans for selling Liberty Bonds to prospective pur chasers. Some of them have put it on a 12 months' installment plan ba sis while others have adopted the G months' installment plan. In every instance, however, the bank is ren dering its service to the government and to the bond purchaser without compensation of any kind as was the case in connection with the first is sue. Atlanta banks have already adopted and announced these plans and word is coming from towns and cities all over the district of similar action. The active campaign for the sale of Liberty Bonds is being carried first to the construction forces and afterwards to the soldiers in each of the seven army cantonments in the Sixth District. Speakers are ap pearing at the army camps and for the present are taking the matter up with the construction forces, all of whom have been paid good salaries and good wages, urging them to put a part of their income into a Liberty Bond. Next the suggestion will be car ried to the soldiers, every one of whom could afford to take a $50 or $100 Bond on the partial payment (Continued on Page 2).
