There should be and there must be an awakening to the fact that this is our war and the traitorous and far fetched statements of LaFollette and Varda man that this is not our war and we should be at peace should find no resting place in the Hearts and minds of Americans here; while in ternational law and agreements are ignored, while our property is hunted for and destroyed, our women and children, and our brave seamen as well as murdered in cold blood on the high seas; and all hu manity are bleeding at every pore under the barbrous piratical and hellish methods employed by the Central Empires in their efforts to qrq|^ )(Freedom, «nd enslave the Human. I .have disgressed some what but could not help it. There is now about 16,00ip sol diers at the camp and more (taming as fast as can be cared for. There is an army of men at work, building sleeping and mess-rooms, store houses, officers' quarters Y. M. C. A. buildings, hospitals, stables etc., cement walks and a central con crete highway, heating plants, wa ter works, sewers and an army of plumbers and linemen for tel graph and telephone. In fact build ing a city with all modern conven-. iences and sanitary equipment for ! nearly 45,000 people in about five j months time. Red Cross work is active but not enthusiastic as in St. Mary when I left. Ihave been reading our Red Cross notes to my people here, but a few of late I did not read.
