The loud tones of the minister failed to arouse the farmer, until at length, the time waning, the L'ood man elo3ed the lids of the Bible and concluded as follows: "Indeed, my hearers, the harvest Is plenteous, but the laborers are few." "Yes," exclaimed Farmer B—, "I've offered two dollars a day for cradelws and can't get 'em at tta.t" REMEDY FOR PLANT LICE ON GREENS Turnips, mustard and radishes grown in Louisiana during the fall months are often severely injured by a small, light green, soft-bodied, sucking insect—an aphid, or plant louse—that Is found principally on the underside of the leaves. These aphids may be kept under control by spraying with a mixture of one teaspoonful of nicotine sul phate and an inch cube of laundry soap in a gallon of water, the soap being first dissolved In a portion of the water. > A spray pump that will force the liquid out of the nozzle as a fine spray or mist must be used, and the aphids must be wet with the spray in order to kill them. The noz zle should be so attached to the spray rod as to form a right angle at that point. With this device the spray can be better applied to the under surface of the leaves. Begin spray ing when the aphids first attack tho plants. To facilitate spraying the seed should be planted in drills or rows— not broadcast. It is also much easier to reach the aphids on plants having smooth leaves.—Department of Ento mology, Experiment Station, Louisi ana State University. Display posters, advocating the planting of a large acreage in oats and a limited acreage in wheat, have been distributed over the state by the Extension Division of the Louisiana State University. CARRUTH BRO'S DAIRY. Phone 43- 2 REV. SHUTTLES WORTH RESIGNS Rev. L. H. Shuttlesworth sprang a real surprise on his eon gregation when l>e resigned the pastorate of the Baptist church last Sunday morning. No one was looking for him to do that, and it is not done thru any misunderstandingbut on ac count of insufficient support. Many church people do not properly consider the needs of their pastors and a result of this carelessness is humiliation of these men because of their inabil ity to meet their obligations. Not only in mind do they suffer but in bcdy as well. The tremeudous increase in the cost of living is working hard ships on all men receiving small salaries for the cost of living has gone up fast r than the wages, and this is especially true of the salaries of ministers; and when the salary is irregularly paid, and sometimes not paid at all, the preacher either has to do some thing olse to supplement the sal ary or quit. We regret that this last is the alternative chosen by Rev. Shut tlesworth. He has taken an activ part in the affairs of the towu for several years. We'll miss hiui.
