Has $10,000,000 Fire,
Hot Springs, Ark., Sept. 5.
Fire which started in a negro's
cabin at 3:30 o'clock this after
noon. is slowly dying out at West
Mountain, the southern extrem
ity of Hot Springs. at midnight,
after reducing to a smouldering
mass of wreckage an area more
than a mile in length and from
seven to ten blocks wide in the
eastern section of the city. An
accurate statement of the mone
tary loss cannot be made at this
time, but it is roughly estimated
as ten million dollars.
So far as can be learned there
were no fatalities, and the few
that were hurt suffered only
minor iujuries, but 2,000 persons
or more were rendered home
less.
Among the buildings destroy
ed were the city's light, water,
gas and power plants, the coun
ty court house, the high school
building, the Park, Moody, City,
Jefferson and Princess Hotels,
St. Louis, Iron Mountain and
Southern Railroad station and
shops, the Ozark Sanitarium,
Peoples Laundry, the Crystbl
Theatre and Bijou rink, besides
a hundred or more smaller busi
ness buildings and many resi
dences, including some of the
best in the city.

Washington, Sept. 5.-Senator giv

The amendment as it stands

The announcement in New thi

burst of selling orders in the

been witnessed since the Sully
days. It drove prices off fully

moralized the upward movement.

modification it would practically ca
