Supt. L. G. Porter was a busi ness visitor in the Crescent City this week. Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Warren of Houma were among the happy Christ mas party at the home of Supt. and Mrs. Porter. District Judge Gerald Porter of Lake Charles returned Tuesday to his home in Lake Charles after en joying the family gathering at the home of Mr. L. G. Porter. Mr. and Mrs. Laurent Dauterive and children were here from Lafay ette Sunday for the day. Mrs. Huey and little daughter. Judge and Mrs. Gerald Porter and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Porter, all motored over from Lake Charles last Saturday to be the guests of Supt. and Mrs. Lloyd Porter. Mrs. Huey and daughter and Mrs. Gerald Port er returned to Lake Charles that evening, but the rest of the party remained over Christmas. Miss Grace Broussard and Miss Helen Broussard of Natchitoches Normal have been spending the holi days with their relatives in Loreau ville. Supt. Porter's father and mother, and sister, Betty, left Wednesday for Houma, La., where they will be guests of Mrs. Warren over New Year's Day. They had spent Christ mas here. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marin, holi day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jules Mestayer, have returned to their home in Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Nixon of Lafayette spent Christmas here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Dav enport . Mr. and Mrs. Jules Maubaulet of Morse, La., visited here with Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Marin over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. James T. McGary, who have been enjoying a holiday vacation in New Orleans with rela tives and old friends, returned to New Iberia Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Schexnayder of Lafayette were Christmas guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Carver. Mrs. A. G. Barrow, Mrs. Howard Lyle, Miss Marie Oubre and Mr. Alcee Girard spent Thursday after noon in Loreauville. Miss Ria Schwing returned last week after a very enjoyable visit of six weeks, spent in the city of San Antonio, Texas. Among the happy Christmas party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwing were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Romero and children, who have now returned to their Lafayette home. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Weeks had as their holiday guests their daugh ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rivers Wall, of Baton Rouge. Mrs. O. Romero will leave Satur day for a few weeks visit with her daughter, Mrs. Monroe Maurice, in Baton Rouge. Miss Lulu Dubaval of New Or leans is visiting Miss Ada Renoudet this week. Miss Ruth Rand, who is employed Crowley, returned to that city Thursday after enjoying her holiday with her mother and brother here. Miss Ada Renoudet and Mr. Mau rice Dubaval motored to Crowley Monday afternoon to call on friend.;. Miss Grace Bergeron of Crowley is the guest of her sister, Mrs. L. C. Neff. Dr. and Mrs. Everett Kibby and children of Abbeville were holiday guests of Mrs. Albert Landry at Segura. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Liege of Abbeville were also in the pleas ant party. Post Master Silvio Broussard had as his guest this week his brother, Mr. William Broussard of New Or leans . Mrs. Floyd Gaiennie and children have returned from Port Arthur after a short visit. Dr. H. A. King and Mr. John Harrop of Lake Charles, who was visiting here, attended the funeral of Mr. Bynum, in Baton Rouge on Thursday of this week. Mr. Bynum enjoyed a large circle of friends in New Iberia, who will all regret to hear of the death of this good man. Mrs. P. A. Boykin of Jeanerette was the guest Thursday of Mrs. H A. King. Mrs. Adler Landry had as her guests for Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Harry Friedman of New Orleans. Dr. and Mrs. Paul Landry and children were Christmas guests of Mrs. Albert Landry at her home in Segura. Mr. Lawrence Scally of Thibo deaux spent Sunday and Monday here as the guest of his sister, Mrs. Edward Estorge. Mr. Marcus DeBlanc expects leave for Baton Rouge Monday to start the new year as Junior Ac countant with a large firm of Public Accountants with which he has se cured employment. Miss Nina Eves was the guest of friends in Franklin during the first part of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith and little son returned to their home in Alexandria after spending Christmas Days as guests of Mr. and Mrs. A G. Barrow. Mrs. Roy Dean and little daugh ter, Dorothy, of Houston, are visit at the home of Mrs. L. Y. Mel enson for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Mayronne and children, who were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Albert DeBlanc, have returned to their home in Algiers. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pharr spent Christmas Day at Fairview Planta tion, near Berwick. Mis9 Marie Oubre has returned to New Orleans after an enjoyable vis it with friends here for several weeks. The Steamship Jeanne de Arc ar rived at port in New Orleans this week with Hubert de Roque Feulle on board. This young man is the nephew of the late Dr. Alfred Du perier, and son of Viscountess de Roque Fuelle, of France. If able to obtain a few days leave of ab sence from the steamer he intends to spend it here as the guest of Mrs. Alfred Duperier. Mr. John Newton Pharr, a student at Yale University, who was at home over the holidays, had as hi3 guests Mr. Bill Mallory of Memphis, Tennessee, and Mr. Malbridge, of Springfield, Mass. They are both class mates of his at Yale. The three, together with Messrs. D. and K. Smith of Baton Rouge, and Jack Pharr, also a Yale student, have been enjoying a duck hunt at Port Arthur, Texas, for several days. Mrs. Jacob Davis entertained as guests Tuesday Mr. Henry Scharff and daughter, Miss Blanche, of Ab beville . BORN—To Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Marin, last Friday, a splendid lit tle baby daughter. This is their sec ond child, Miss Yolande Tilly, sister of the late Superintendent Tilly, was mar ried to Mr. Toups, in Kaplan, Tues day of this week. They passed through New Iberia en route to New Orleans, where they will make a short visit before . re turning to their future home in Kap Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Girard of Loreauville entertained a few friends at a supper Wednesday night. Mr. Dennis Mestayer of this city was among the guests. Friends of Mr. Henri Blanchet will be grieved to learn that he at present confined to the bed with an attack of Grippe. A PLEASANT GATHERING. The large and beautiful home of Dr. and Mrs. H. A. King was the scene of a most delightful event last Sunday afternoon, when this esti mable couple were hosts to a num ber of friends and relatives at an informal gathering. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. John R. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Porter, Mrs. J. W. Warren, Miss Bettie Porter, Misses Louise and Mary Taylor, Miss Marie Cage, Mrs. J. W. K. Shaw, and Mr. and Mrs. John Harrop. COMING NUPTIALS. Mrs. Jacob Davis announces the approaching marriage of her grand daughter, Miss Fannie Scharff, to Mr. Michel Cohen of New York City. The ceremony will take place on January ninth, in New Orleans. After the wedding the young cou ple will make their home in New Jersey. Miss Scharff is a very popular New Iberia girl, and has the best wishes of her hundreds of friends here, who will regret however that her future home is to be so far away from them. of in FOR SALE. NEXT WEEK. Mrs. C. W. Outhwaite announ ces that the final report on the Christmas Fund collected by the Un sectarian Aid Society will be report ed in the next issue of this paper. There are still a few collections coming in, making it impossible to give a final accounting this week. However, we understand that the usual amount was realized, and that the good work of this society went along as usual among the unfortun ate of this city. BRIDE CLUB ENTERTAINED. One of the most enjoyable social events of the present week took place Thursday afternoon, when Mrs Arthur Schexnayder was hostess to the Bridge Club, at her home on East Main Street. The luncheon was especially de lightful. The prizes at cards were won by Mrs. Frank Mouton, Mrs. Leon Minvielle, and Mrs. John Bu quor. Miss Mary Hannah, for the past few months director of the Communi ty Service work in New Iberia, has sent her resignation to the Execu tive Board, to take effect early in January. Funds for carrying on the work as planned by the Board were not ob tainable, and Miss Hannah, seeing this, has tendered her resignation, to relieve the organization of that fin ancial burden. Miss Hannah states that her stay in this city has been most pleasant, and that she will always remember her many friends here, and the en joyable events of her sojourn in New Iberia. The work of Community Service will continue, under a somewhat al tered program, so that the splendid things now under way will be carried out to the fullest possible extent Miss Hannah's stay here has won for her many friends who will all regret to hear of her departure soon after New Year's Day. of is MISS ANNETTE BERARD. Miss Annette Berard, daughter of Mrs. Clelia Berard, died at Pineville Louisiana, last Sunday, December 24th. A message was sent from that place immediately, but was not deli vered to Mrs. Berard in Loreauville until Monday. Arrangements were made at once for shipment of the body to Loreauville, where the fun oral was held Wednesday at four o'clock P. M. The services were very largely attended, as Miss Berard had enjoyed a wide circle of friends and relatives in her native town. She had formerly been a teacher in the Loreauville school.
