Wood be authorized to have bridge at Brandon repaired as cheaply as possible, the parish to pay actual cost of said repairs. Mr. LeSassier was empowered to have road to Brandon made passable as cheap iy as possible, cost not to exceed $50.00. Route of road machine: from town to complete 2nd ward, back to town, out upper Jackson road to Lester's to Missis sippi line, and back down to Thompson's creek. To the Honorable President and Members of the Police Jury of the Parish of West Feliciana: During the first week of May of this year, a representative committee of citi zens of the Parish of East Feliciana met a body of citizens of this parish and put before them a plan worked out by them whereby, with the co-operation of West Feliciana, a reinforced concrete bridge could be constructed to connect the two parishes, crossing at Thompson's creek near the old Jackson ford. At this meeting a committee was ap pointed, composed of the undersigned, to go over the situation with a like body from East Feliclana, to investigate con ditions, get approximate cost of the bridge and to co-operate with East Feliciana in ascertaining the feasibility of construct ing the same. Accordingly this committee, together with Elrie Robinson of the True Demo crat, met in Jackson on the 24th day of May, and were shown proposed locations for bridges and on the same day a mass meeting of the citizens of.East Feliciana was held and the whole matter was dis cussed with this committee. There it was proposed to construct three bridges at points indicated in the attached sketch, being respectively 100, 280 and 300 feet in length. (This sketch was printed in The True Democrat sev eral weeks ago.) A carefully drawn blue print was submitted showing the style of bridge contemplated, and estimates were submitted by competent engineers who stated that a series of three bridges could be constructed on this plan at a cost of from $12,500 to $14,000, with all necessary approaches, and including a reasonable profit to any contracting firm who under took the work. Another plan was submitted to con struct two bridges of similar design, one at the main ford of Thompson's creek or a little below and one at Decker's ford about one mile above Jackson. This latter plan would require about 100 feet more of bridge construction than the plan firt above submitted, and would likely I cost considerably more on account of the necessity of going to a greater depth to 1 get a sufficient foundation for the piers at the lower ford. On Tuesday the slet day of June this I committee made its report to the citizens of West Feliciana after calling for at mass meeting for that purpose, and for the further purpose of obtaining an ex-< pression from them on the subject in I question. After the report of this "committee was submitted to mass meeting and consid erable discussion was had on the sub ject, a motion was made, seconded and carried that this committee be continued for the purpose of taking the subject up further with your honorable body and submitted to you for your consideration. A further motion was made, seconded and e carried, that this committee be instructed a to ask your honorable body to place this i whole question in some manner before the s whole people of this parish for the pur- t pose of ascertaining their sentiments and c ideas in the matter and also their willing- t ness to support the measure of bridge a construction, and also the Police Jury Ibould see fit to act, it being the sense l of the meeting that these bridges should be constructed. And they were further C nstructed to Include in their proposal to 'our honorable body, a plan to bridge big Fayou Sara creek at some point to be Lscertained, this also to be submitted to ,he people in some manner together with he proposal as to Thompson's creek. Accordingly, this committee comes be ',re you and asks that you consider the above carefully, take action thereon, and levise a means to get the sentiment of all he citizens of West Fellciana as to whether these most necessary bridges shall be constructed. W. B. SMITH, Chairman; A. H. MOSES, R. S. SOULE, F. O. HAMILTON, G. M. LESTER, Secretary; t. Francisville, La., June 2, 1915. Be it resolved, That the Police Jury extend a vote of thanks to the citizens Lnd its committee for placing this matter before them, and they recommend that aid committee proceed to ascertain hrough petition, the sentiment of all the itizens on this question, agreeing to give he measure its support should it be found majority of the people favor the same.
