Why not keev that smile on baby's

but smiles on his face. Mrs. S--.

i Porto Iico Rice Broker Visits Welsh.
Lee FI. Vendig, who is a broker for
i the Gulf .ice Mill and has been visit
ing the rice belt for the past month,
left the latter part of the week for his
home in San Juan, Porto Rlico. Mr.
Vendig is an American who became
disgusted with the "sweat system '
and because of his feling against the
wrong in it, resigned an excellent po
sition in his father's factory. He then
collected samples of various lines and
started for the West Indies, after hav
ing studied Spanish for six months.
SHis success has been a signal one,
last year his coummissions amn(outing
to well up in the thousands. Besides
handling rice, he also represents the
Armour products and Ballard's flour.
Last winter while in P'orto lHico, I'hil
ip Miller, then manager of th, Gulf
Mill, placed the account of the mill
with Mr. Vindig, and this transaction
resulted in a business relation which
occasioned his recent visit to \Welsh.

A CAREFUL INSPECTION
*
should always be made when selecting
an article upon the proper working of
which the happiness of the family de- " -
pends. In selecting a "Quick Meal"
Stove you take no chances-you go ab
solutely sure. _
A "Quick Meal" Stove will do all that
a coal stove can do:
COOKING AND BOILING,
BAKING AND BROILINO,
FRYING AND ROASTINO,
STEWING AND TOASTINGO.
Only it does it so much quicker, nicer,
cheaper, cleaner and oh! so much easier.
The immense sale of the "Quick Meal"
Stove is due to its Merits-to nothing
else. It is the BEST.

.\, an item of interest to v(Ir read- t
ers, I heg to report that this (Tues- f'
day) mornling, at 10 o'clock, there was, t
sold on the floor of the New Orleans
Board of T'rade, the first new crop 11
e rice marketed this year. The lot con
sited of 39 sacks of well matured, h
well cured white Honduras, raised at s
New Iberia, and brought $6.00 per a
barrel, at auction. No t as much prem- a
ium as is usually paid for first offer- s:
ings, probably on account of size of t'
lot, The rice was worth .35.00 0o to
day's market. Ieceipts here will not
be steady for two weeks yet, but bar- w
ing bad weather, the mills will all he tl
running by the 5th of August. The
Teche country and Abbeville district HI
are very early and will probably mark. st
