The recent District W. ('. T. U. Convention was a success. The ad dresses by State President Mrs. Wilkins and by Rev. Battle of Jen. nings were well received. The people of Welsh showed their interest in temperance work by an excellent at. tendance, the closing session being crowded. During the convention several children were decorated with the white ribbon and dedicated to the temperance cause as White Ribbon Recruits. Some money was pledged for the legislative prohibition work ill 1910. The church was prettily decorated with flags, State and National Ban ners and festoons of signed Sunday School Temperance pledge cards. The delegates from a distance were Mrs. Berrian, Mrs. F'oster, Mrs. Waiori'bt, of Lake Charles. Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Wallace, of Lake Arthur. Mrs. Wardlow, Mrs. Henry, of Mont gomery. Mrs. Wilkins, Mrs. Suencer, Mrs. Tracy, Mrs. Lumpkin, of Jen nings. Mrs. Colstock, of Silverton Colerado. The Jennings L. T. L. seut.a delega tion of fourteen to sing some of their songs and give their rally cries. The 3ells especialy were enjoJed in the afternoon meeting for children. The following officers were elected. E, Brown Lake Arthutr. 'Humanu Hearts." "Human Hearts" will be presented this season with an entirely new scen ic equipment. Mr. W. E. Nankeville, at great expense, hatL photographic views for the new scenes taken in the hills of Arkansas, in the locality where the scenes oi the pla, are laid, so as to have the production as true to life as possible. Tuese photo graphs were turned over to the scenic artist and the results have been most satisfactory. Mr. Hankeville also commissioned the photographer to pick up anything in the way of prop erties that might lend color to any of the scenes. The artist acquired an anvil and bellows from the village blacksmith shop, that were once used by the prototype of otin Logan, the hero of the play. "Human Hearts" in all its scenic iiientlor, will be seen at the Lyric in Like Charles, Wednesday, Dec. 9. The party wasas follows; Misses Loretta Strohe, Eckels, Watkins and Mock. Messrs W. P. Strohe and Waterman. -Herald. B P. Taber, the energetic young merchant, who is opening up a new store at Rice, and whose advertise ment appears elsewhere in this is sue, was a business visitor in Welsh Tuesday morning. Mr. Taber ex pects soon to have in a complete line of general merchandise, so that people in the vicinity of Rice need not go elsewhere to do their trad ing. Dulva Benoit returne 1, Saturday from New Orleans, where he had been for the past three weeks in the hospital. having undergone a successful surgical opperation. Mrs. Benoit has been spending the time during the absence of her husband with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clopha Benoit. They both left for their home in Millerville Tuesday morning. The family of Mr. Narrens arrived here Saturday from their home in Oklahoma. Mr. Narrens, who is the father of J. W. Narrens, the well known planter, has been here for several weeks past. The fam ily will locate on a farm two and one-half miles east of town. The Narrens young people expect to en ter the Welsh schools after the holidays. Have your piano or organ put in perfect condition before the holi days. You will enjoy it not only then, but for months to follow. Drop a postal to E. B. The ladies realized a neat sum for their work. After the supper the young folks spent the hours in dancing and merry making. The whole occasion was a pleasent one, and thoroughly enjoyed by those present. Now is the time to sow oats.
