Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Read enter tained with a six o'clock dinner Fri day, in honor of Mrs. [lead's grand father, Wm. Millikan, who was their guest, Those present were Wm. Mil likan of Kansas City, Mo., W. L, Isaaes of Sandwich, Ill., S. A. Hyle, of New Moorfield, Ohio, J. C. Kip linger and M. L. Farlow of Welsh. They were joined later in the evening by Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Field, Mr. and Mrs L. E. Robinson and daugh ter, Miss lone. Stories of the exploits and ezperi ences, as told by these gentlemen, the youngest of whom was sixty-seven and the oldest eighty-two, together with several piano selections given by Mrs. Robinson and Miss Ione, made the evening an enjoyable one. Mrs. J. I'. I)oham Entertained Ladles Aid Last Friday. The Ladies' Aid society of the M. E. church, and a few friends, spent a very enjoyable day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Donham, Friday, February 5th. Although the morning promised disagreeable weather, about two dozen persons, with well tilled baskets, ar rived shortly before noon and when the good things they took were added to the splendid repast prepared by the hostess, a more tempting dinner could not be wished for. Most of the ladies took their needle work and the afternoon was spent in working on same and in pleasant con versation, interspersed with vocal and instrumental music, rendered by Mrs. W, D. Boyd. The out-of-town guests present were Mrs. Frank Patterson of Delta, 0.. Mrs. H. A. Capson of Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Howard Neilson of Marseillas, Ill., Mrs. R. L. Swain of Anderson, Ind. I take this method of notifying the residents and property owners of Road District No. 5, of Ward 2, that the following ordinance will be strict ly inforced in future, in this district. J. W. Amending readopting an ordinance relative to flooding or inundating public roads, approved and adopted October 1st 1901: SECTION 3. Be it ordained by the Police Jury of the Parish of Calcasieu, in regular session assembled, That the'ordinance relative to the flooding and inundat ing of public roads, ,eli,,pted and ap proved by the Polico Jury the 1st day of October, A. D., 1901, be amended and readopted so as to re;ad as fol lows, to-wit: That whoever shall flood or inundate or otherwise damage any public road or any portion there of, either by obstructing natural drainage, or allowing water to seep through or overflow levees erected or constructed along said public roads, shall be guilty-of a misdemeanor and shall be triable before any court of competent jurisdiction, upon indict ment or information found or present ed; and upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by fine in a sum not to exceed two hundred ($200) dollars, or imprisonment not to exceed thirty days or both, at the discretion of the court. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fulton, Mr. and Mrs L. B. Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Carr, Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Read and Mrs. A. B. Welch. The gentlemen, after their cigars, bade the hostess adieu and re turned to their business affairs, while the ladies remained for an afternoon of chatting and fancy work. Rev. R. C. Irwin of Decatur, IlL, delivered two excellent sermons at the Presbyterian hoburch Sunday, and also addressed the congrega tion again Tuesday evening.
