Roanoke 'lauters D)iisposing of Large Quantiitiis of Rice Straw. 1)Ilrin- a short visit to ont pros,'.r out little r.eighbor, loanoke, a few 18 days ago, we noticed a number of ri loads of haled straw comiing into town. Inquiry developed the fact that the farmers of that localety are Ii doing a tloturishling business in baling, and selling their straw, One firm there, who is shipping most, if not all the straw that is sent out of the town. said they had, duriung the past year, C shipped over two hundred ears of baled straw from that immediate lo cality. The cars ranged in the neigh borhood of ten tons each, makin, a total of something over 2,000 tons of straw, generally a waste product, that these thrifty farmers have con verted) into money. It is by this class of business economy that `Roan oke has come to be one of the most prosperous communities of the rice belt. Dew Tremont Hlotel :4Jave Pleasant Opening on the First Inst. The New Tremont Hotel was form ally opened to the public Thursday night of last week. A number of handsome invitations had been sent E out to the patrons and friends of the management of the hotel, anti as a re sult a large crowd assembled to at tend the opening. The iuests were shown over the house by the hoste aind hostess, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Morrispn, and were later conducted to the spacious dining room, where all were serv~d with hot gumbo. The New Tremont is, without doubt, the finest hostlery Welsh has ever had and it is safe to predict that the pres ent management will conduct it in a thoronghly modern manner. T'woVasoline Tractions for Farm Work Arrived Here Monday. The first, but if successful, by no means the last, heavy gasoline trac tion engines to be seen in this section of the state, arrived here the first of the week. They were two engines of about twenty horsepower each, de signed esoecially for heavy farm work, such as plowing, discing, drill in,, etc. These machines are much lighter in weight than the steam trac tion, and by the extension of the width of the wheels, are especially fitted for use on soft~ground. The new machines were sold by the Welsh Carriage and implement Co., of )hip city, and were purchased by Mr. F, A. Arceneaux and Dr. A. C. Wilkins bor their respective plantations. Yazoo Times: Third notice! Every editor has received them. The post master is not to blame. For instance, there is a man by the name of, we'll say Tim Short-who sent out thres notices to stop his paper. He did not want it any longer. Upop investigat. ing our subscription book we found Tim Short owed us $5. O. He never paid a cent but yet he stopped his paper as a matter of economy to us. A few evenings ago we stepped in the church and Tim,s melodious voice rang out loud and clear in the old stirring song, "Jesus Paid it All." We might have been mistaken but his earnestness impressed ,us, The next day we sent him a receipt in full beg ging his pardon for not knowing he had made an assignmen: of his liabil ities t5 the Lord, LOCALS CO\TINUEDI 1Irs.
